5 Successful Medium Writers On How To Write Better
Because professional development is a must
It was the fall of 1990, and I was expecting my first child. I signed up for a course on creative writing from an adult education catalog at the local community college. It changed my life.
When the course ended, we knew this couldn’t be the end of it. We, the seven ladies in the class and myself, along with the instructor, began a writer’s group. The Woodlands Writer’s Guild, now in version 2.0, is still going strong.
A couple of years earlier, I had taken a correspondence course on children’s writing. Though I never finished the course, I wrote two stories that I am proud of.
What I am saying is that when you are a writer, you cannot help but write. At times, you might feel that you’re not good enough to be a writer, so you invest in yourself as a writer. You buy books, take classes, and attend conferences. The junoon, a feeling of being possessed, engulfs your being. You are obsessed with the desire to write. (Holly Jahangiri calls it her muse.)
I have been writing, on and off, since 1981, and I have even self-published a book of essays — Life: It’s a trip (available on Amazon).
When I decided to write on Medium, I spent more time reading about how to be successful on Medium that I did writing, a sign of imposter syndrome, maybe? But the truth is that any professional, regardless of their field of endeavor, must invest in some form of professional growth. Writers are no different. I am always on the lookout for a helping hand.
Here are quotes from five writers, who are well-known and successful on #ILLUMINATION, and other publications. I am also sharing their stories from where the quotes come.
“Learning from other wonderfully talented writers is, in my opinion, our duty as writers. If we’re not learning we’re not improving.” ~ Paul Myers MBA
“Secret №1: Sometimes you just have to start writing. Don’t wait until you have all the ideas ready to go.” ~ 🦄 Chris Hedges
“Each time you write something, you should be writing not just for now, but for your future.” ~ P.G. Barnett
“I am up at three every single day. I workout. I write, workout, write. I publish at least one or more articles every single day.” ~ Julia E Hubbel

“If you already know what you are going to write about each day, it makes it way easier to figure out what to write about.” ~ Timothy Key
You will find a treasure trove of knowledge and inspiration in the five stories above. Take the time to read them. There is no better investment of your time than in yourself.
As always, thank you for reading and responding.
