5 Steps to Use ChatGPT for Growth through Personalized Journal Prompts

When looking for free journal prompts, I found that most resources were missing the mark for what I needed and the questions would often be repetitive.
Up until this point, I was using ChatGPT for making educational roadmaps, learning paths for mastery in my desired field, and more things of similar nature. If I was using ChatGPT effectively for all these things, why couldn’t I use it to make personalized journal prompts?
To take it a step further, I figured out how to make growth gains that regular journal prompts, even the paid ones, can’t provide.
Let’s dive into how to make some personal growth with ChatGPT.
Step 1 — Choose a topic you want to journal about
What do you want the focal point of your journaling prompts to be about? Do you want to focus on gratefulness, dispelling anxiety, or to get through an event that is giving you stress?
For an example, I will say I want to focus on dispelling social anxiety about an upcoming event.
Step 2 — Type up a brief backstory of your situation
At this stage, you want to summarize a bit of the reason of why you are seeking to write journal prompts in the first place.
To continue with the example above, I would type the following:
“I have been struggling with social anxiety and I have an upcoming event that is triggering me. I want to be calm and to enjoy myself because the event is actually something I am excited about!”
After this, we don’t hit enter! We will add onto this in the next steps.
Step 3 — Add the request to create the prompts with a twist
You want to add to the story above by adding a journal prompt request. The twist that takes advantage of this new technology is the command you will add along with the initial request.
What you are going to request is for ChatGPT to analyze your finished journal prompts in order provide its analysis and tips. This would look like the following:
“I have been struggling with social anxiety and I have an upcoming event that is triggering me. I want to be calm and to enjoy myself because the event is actually something I am excited about! Please provide me some journal prompts that would help with my situation. I would like my responses analyzed to provide feedback and tips.”
Step 4 — Fill out your responses and send it back
ChatGPT will then send you a list of journal prompts to complete. It would look something like this:
“1. What is the worst case scenario of you going to this event?
2. When was the first time you felt social anxiety?
3. How…”
You take the prompts and type up your answers to them. Personally, I number them according to the numbering of the prompts the AI provided. I fill out all the questions and send it back, copying and pasting all of my answers back into the chat box.
Step 5 — Read ChatGPT’s analysis and tips
After you send it back, the AI will give you personalized analysis and tips based on how you answered your questions. You can sift through it for points to take or leave. The response shouldn’t be taken as the end all to advice you take. It is simply there for possible insight for your own growth.
It is always preferred to seek the help of professionals.
Thank you and happy growing!
