What if the secret to unlocking a revolutionary year of fitness is closer than expected?

What if you don’t need expensive training classes & gym passes? Yes, you read right. Fitness doesn’t start in the gym, it starts in your head having the right mindset.

Here are five steps to how you get the motivation to exercise like never before — even as a busy professional.

Step 1: Reevaluate your lifestyle in 2024

What’s your current situation?

Are you fed up off living unhealthy and want to look good naked? Define your reasons why you want to start exercising because they will be your fuel.

When I started working out, I wanted to look good naked for my ex-girlfriend. Don’t do that. That’s one of the worst reasons to start exercising because I quickly lost motivation and stopped. It only helps you in the beginning. But you require endurance.

You need good reasons to work out constantly. Be smart about it and define several why’s you wanting to exercise. With that, you have the necessary motivation to keep things going when life gets busier.

Define proper why’s, providing your fuel for change.

Step 2: Set clear and concise fitness goals

Don’t aim for the moon, if you don’t have a rocket.

Most people’s problems wants something too abstract. They aim for: “I want to lose weight”, which is a vague description of a goal.

When I started working out, I wanted abs. Of course, I didn’t get abs. Because it was just too abstract, especially in the beginning, when I had no idea of working out. Abstraction is a goal’s worst killer. It makes you stop pursuing your goals because you simply don’t have any idea, where to start.

Clarify your goals. Break them down and make them easily understandable, like: “I want to lose 5 kg in six weeks by going swimming.” Get really clear on what you want.

Define specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound goals to stay motivated.

Step 3: Create a sustainable exercise routine

Use your energy wisely.

There’s no point in overdoing it. Because with exercising too much, you’ll lose motivation faster than Usain Bolt runs.

Please don’t be one of the resolutioners. When I started working out, I’d hit the gym 6 times a week, only to realize that I didn’t get enough sleep, didn’t see my friends anymore, and still don’t have the progress I’d like. All of that will become your next best excuse to stop going to the gym. You need something sustainable. This will help you stick to it, even if life becomes busy.

Sustainability is key. What’s worth the best exercising routine, when you do it only once? To finally get in shape, you need to work out consistently.

Fitness is a marathon, not a race.

Step 4: Make healthy nutrition part of your lifestyle

Abs are made in the kitchen.

Nutrition is more important than exercise. One single burger can destroy your day’s progress in the gym.

That’s what most people get wrong. For a long time, I was convinced that I’d look good naked if I only go to the gym, do my workout and some cardio — no matter what I eat. Only when I didn’t see any progress after going to the gym for multiple weeks, I realized that this wasn’t the case. Healthy eating is everything. If you want to look good naked, feel better, and stay healthy, start eating it seriously.

Nutrition is key. But it doesn’t have to be difficult. Simply eat unprocessed foods, lean protein, drink plenty of water, and try cutting out sugar.

Eating healthy is a marathon, not a race.

Step 5: Stay accountable and monitor progress

Check on yourself.

Create metrics to help you measure your progress and hold yourself accountable. This will ensure you achieve your goals.

The best exercising and nutrition routines won’t work, when you can’t hold yourself accountable. When I started working out, my worst mistake wasn’t the lack of routine. Neither the shallow why behind my exercising. It was not holding myself accountable. Without accountability, you can and probably will do whatever you want, instead of working out.

Accountability is everything. Why do you think people start losing weight quickly, when there’s a wedding on the horizon? They have something that holds them accountable.

Hold yourself accountable to stay consistent.

Starting to exercise (and to look good naked) in 2024 isn’t really difficult if you focus on:

  • defining a why empowering your change
  • setting SMART goals
  • creating sustainable eating & exercising routines
  • hold yourself accountable
