5 Signs You’ve Found A Favorite Book Of All Time

#4: You can’t stop talking about it

How do you know when you’ve found a favorite book of all time?

Is it the feeling you get when you finish it? The characters or stories that stay with you long after you finish the book? Or, maybe it’s the fact that you keep going back to it years and years later.

Here are five signs you’ve found a new favorite book:

#1: You’re Emotional

You squeal when your two favorite characters get together. When a plot twist happens that you didn’t see coming, your jaw actually drops. You cry when something heartbreaking happens, and laugh out loud at the jokes a sassy character makes.

These audible and physical reactions to the book make you feel like you are living that scene or in that same world with the characters. You get completely swept away by the story and forget all about what’s happening in your own life.

#2: It’s Memorable

Even when the book isn’t in your hand, you keep thinking about it. Maybe the book didn’t immediately grab you from the first few scenes. But now, when you put it down, you can’t get the book out of your head.

You’re replaying scenes in your head over and over again. You’re wondering how a certain plot point will finally be resolved. It’s keeping you up at night as you steal time to read it.

The more you think about it, the more you love it.

#3: You’re Jealous

How did someone write something that good?! How did their brain come up with a way to craft that sentence and create this intricate story or fantasy world?

You’re in awe of the writing. You don’t know how they did it, and you sort of wish you could have written something equally as good (but know it would be impossible).

#4: You Can’t Stop Talking About It

You normally don’t talk about the books you read to your friends and family. But now, you find a way to mention the book in every conversation.

You can’t stop talking about it and recommending it to people. “Seriously, it’s just as entertaining as that Netflix show!” you say to someone. You want other people to read it because you want to talk about the book with someone else. You know they’ll love it, if only they give it a chance.

#5: You Want To Read it Again (And Again)

You can barely put the book down when you read it. All other responsibilities and tasks go to the side in favor of finishing the book. You wanted to savor it, but you also can’t help yourself.

Now, you’re finally at the end. You’ve gotten to that final sentence and the journey is over. But, you don’t want it to be over. Even as you close the book, you get the urge to flip back to the start and read it again.

You know it’s going to be a book you will want to return to again and again.

So what books gave me those feelings (and more)?

Many. Here are five:

  • The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid
  • Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir
  • Just Listen by Sarah Dessen
  • Renegades by Marissa Meyer
  • A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J Maas
