We all have experienced burnout at one point in our life. Sometimes it can be difficult to walk away from a stressful job especially if you don't have a backup plan. It can be also hard to recognize when we are experiencing burnout because it can show up in different ways. I am talking from experience about burnout. I wish that I knew about the signs of burnout before starting out in my career because perhaps I could have prevented some mistakes that I made due to burnout.
So one may wonder what exactly is burnout. Burnout can be described as a depletion of energy both physically and mentally due to prolonged stress. When I look back on my career there were definitely signs of burnout. Here are the 5 signs of burnout to look for.

1- Anxiety upon entering the workplace
2- Inability to focus at work
3- You call out often due to exhaustion
4- You are experiencing health issues such as high blood pressure
5- You find it difficult to fall and stay asleep at night
How To Overcome Burnout
If you check off each of these signs then you are indeed experiencing burnout. I learned that I had been experiencing burnout for while. In my case at the height of my burnout, I was going through personal issues at home and I worked in a high-stress role. I found it difficult to replenish my energy. When I look back it was the recent I only worked contracted jobs and took breaks away from work. People around you won’t understand what you are going through. People will tell you to take a vacation. I have taken days off and still felt miserable at work. If you think this is what you are going through then you may need to reevaluate things.
Self-care is so important when it comes to working in a stressful environment. Self-care can mean creating a balance between your life and work. Sometimes it may call for changing the line of work, taking a leave of absence, challenging yourself to leave work on time, and taking advantage of your vacation time. I understand that everyone’s situation is different and this is solely just some suggestions. If don’t take away anything from this remember that if you don’t learn to take a break your body will take one for you. None of us want to be forced to sit down.
