5 Signs of True Love From Someone Lucky Enough To Be in One

So, you have found the one. But is it true love? How do we know? What even is true love? Keep reading to find out.

After a few failed relationships and some tough lessons in love and life, I am thrilled to say that I have been in a loving relationship with the same person for over eight years and happily married.

My experiences have allowed me to differentiate between physical attraction, infatuation, and true love.

These are five real signs of true love from my experience.

1. They get physical

I am not talking about sex. Although sex plays some role in love, true love goes beyond sexual attraction.

If someone loves you, they unintentionally start longing to be around you, touch you, hug you, and caress your hair, ear, face, hand, and arms.

Some even go as far as wanting to bite you. Popularly known as cute aggression, not bite your skin off, but you know those cute little puppy bites, which I am a constant victim of.

When someone is in true love they get these urges that they cannot help but cave into, that includes myself.

2. They forgive you even if you don’t deserve it

In my eight years of relationship, I have made many mistakes. Many were small, but some were life-changing and changed my perspective on life.

I am not going to lie. Earlier in my relationship, I have been found chatting with other female acquaintances and flirting online.

Many would have thought that leaving me would be the right choice. Even you may be thinking those thoughts as you read this.

Even to this day, I cannot believe that my wife forgave me for those mistakes, for which, I am very thankful.

Back then, when my now-wife found out about these little chats, she got really angry, and I am sure she even had a break-up in her mind.

But she gave me a chance to explain myself.

I took the chance she gave me. So, instead of giving her a half-assed answer, I gave it a good thought and asked myself, Do I love her? If I did, why did I do what I did? Am I worthy of being forgiven? Am I worthy of her love? I had many questions going through my head because she was more than what I deserved at the time.

As a younger me, I was a bit insecure and needed constant validation from others, especially my female counterparts, to keep my fragile ego intact.

Chatting with girls online or flirting with them helped me feel more confident.

But in reality, being truly confident means being true to your feelings and emotions. Accepting your flaws and constantly working on them. Being committed and knowing you will always make mistakes and take them as lessons to learn from.

So, instead of trying to make up a story or be deceptive. I decided I would be truthful and accept my mistakes and the consequences no matter what.

To my surprise, she forgave me and gave our relationship another go. After that, I never took a chance and have been faithful to her.

Her willingness to forgive me made me respect her more. It made me love her a hundred times over and realise my biggest blunder in life.

To this day, I still learn so much from her, although I cannot say exactly why she forgave me. I think it has something to do with me being honest about the situation.

3. Honesty and trust

You might be thinking, I am the biggest hypocrite or self-contradictory person because I have made some mistakes, and now I am talking about honesty and trust.

You’re right.

I am a hypocrite and self-contradictory and will be many times in my life, but everyone has been at some point or time or will be.

True love requires honesty which leads to a build-up of trust. They are two sides of the same coin; you cannot have one without the other.

And boy, oh boy, since my blunder, I have had to work extra hard to earn back my wife’s trust. But nothing worthwhile comes easy in life, as it takes consistency and commitment.

This brings me to my next sign.

4. They are not afraid of commitments

Many people are afraid of commitments, especially the ones that can change the course of their life.

For example, getting married is a commitment, having a baby is a commitment, and living a healthy lifestyle is a commitment.

Think about it: all of these things take consistent effort and time from your side.

• You have to give up your single life and freedom if you want to get married and settle down.
• Having a baby means you must give up your time and sleep, as babies need constant attention even at night.
• Living a healthy lifestyle means exercising and eating a healthy, balanced diet consistently.

All the good things in life are built through commitment. True love is not an exception.

Committing to a relationship or marriage or the person involved shows they are willing to give up their time and put in the effort to build a relationship with you. This is a definite sign of True Love.

True love doesn’t need to be perfect.

It does not happen overnight; it is built by overcoming many obstacles that life throws at you.

True love will test both people involved. It will test the bond you have built. It will test your patience. It will require both of you to be invested.

Like a plant that survives thousands of wind blows, rain, and storms, grows into a strong tree with its roots deep into the ground.

Your true love will evolve as you face and overcome harsh situations, setting its roots deep into both of your hearts and growing stronger with time. The stronger your bond, the truer your love.
