5 Side Hustles for Introverts That Pay $500 a Month
If you enjoy working on your own, these side gigs can be a great way to make money.
As an introvert, I know exactly how it feels to desire the peace and quiet of being able to make money on your own terms. That’s why I’ve spent the past decade seeking out side hustles that are a good fit for someone who prefers more solitude.
It’s not that I don’t like people. I just don’t like the drama that often comes with working alongside others all day. Furthermore, I experienced a lot of discrimination in the workplace from those who viewed being an introvert as a weakness.
In many ways, it’s actually a hidden strength.
- We create less drama in the workplace.
- We start fewer arguments with coworkers.
- We generally keep our nose to the grindstone.
But sometimes, it’s hard to convince a hiring manager that you can still be an effective employee just because you are more on the quiet side. And as an introvert, I know that others can really get on your nerves.
So, I thought that I would share my list of 5 side hustles that have paid me at least $500 a month in past.
- Virtual Transcription
- Search Engine Evaluation
- Focus Group Studies
- SEO Content Writing
- Dog-Walking and Pet-Sitting
Virtual Transcription
A decade ago, I began making money online from transcription — transcribing audio files into blocks of text for clients of TranscribeMe. Since I enjoyed typing and have decent listening skills, I found it to be a fairly good way to earn money online for a beginner.
While some virtual transcriptionists can earn upwards of $3,000 a money if they have a regular work-from-home job, if you just treat it as a side hustle, you will probably earn closer to $500 a month.
Search Engine Evaluation
My first real work-from-home job was as a web search evaluator for the Clickworker UHRS project. Essentially, it’s the same gig as a search engine evaluator.
As a web search evaluator, my job was to evaluate search results and decide which option was the best based on the user’s likely intent. Other projects involved testing and improving AI.
Sometimes, the gig was a bit tricky, and I didn’t always make that much money. But search engine evaluation is a side gig where you can realistically make $500 a month.
Focus Group Studies
After writing, surveys and focus groups are my favorite ways to make money online. And focus groups can pay upwards of $100 an hour. In fact, I recently just completed a 45-minute virtual discussion panel that paid $200.
Therefore, participating in focus groups can be a very lucrative side hustle. For example, I know of people earning over $1,000 a month just by participating in a few high-paying market research studies. So, it’s a side gig where you can realistically make $500 a month.
SEO Content Writing
Prior to becoming a full-time freelance writer, I started out as an SEO (search engine optimization) content writer for Constant Content. At Constant Content, I would write and sell articles on a wide variety of topics to bloggers, internet marketers, and small business owners seeking SEO-friendly content for their websites.
I enjoyed the flexibility of being able to write about nearly any topic I wanted to. And it was a fun way to learn more about SEO and digital marketing.
While I never made a full-time living selling articles to clients, it was a decent way to make money online. I typically averaged over $500 a month in article sales.
Dog-Walking and Pet-Sitting
Not all great side hustles for introverts involve ways to make money online. In fact, one of my favorite side gigs involves spending time with a man’s best friend.
I’ve been able to earn over $20 an hour from walking dogs around their neighborhood. I’ve also been paid $100+ for watching a dog over the weekend. So, if you love dogs more than people, pet-sitting and dog-walking can be the perfect side gig.
While none of these side hustles on their own can generate a full-time income, you can combine them to hit your earnings goal. It’s like putting different eggs in different baskets. You give yourself some variety and diversify your income streams.
