5 Reasons you need a morning routine
A lot of people talk about their morning routines online. We see it in the form of YouTube videos, blog posts, Instagram stories, reels and even on TikTok. Simply put, it is everywhere. Because of the buzz around having a routine and people’s need to know what other people’s morning routines look like, we would see some unrealistic and unsustainable morning routines online.
Having a routine is important and that is what this article is all about. Not only it is important to have a routine, but it is also necessary that you make it realistic and sustainable. You need to incorporate tasks that you know would match your lifestyle in the long run. You need something that you would be able to do even when you feel stressed and not up to it.
Without further ado, I would dive into the topic of why you need a morning routine and the benefits you stand to gain from having one.
You need structure (It helps you to be confident)
By creating a procedure on how your day would go on a daily basis, you create a structure for yourself. Having a structure also makes you more confident. The confidence could come from your trust in yourself that you would be able to perform certain tasks at a certain time due to your routine. You already know what your day would look like, so you have the luxury to make more plans if you have the spare the time to do so.
It helps you build habits (improves consistency)
Routines in general helps with developing positive habits. If you add tasks that would help you develop yourself in the long run to your morning routine, you would end up developing positive habits. This would only happen if you are consistent with your routine. Some of the tasks that can help one build positive habits include; working out, reading books, getting enough rest, journaling, meditation, etc…
If your morning routine encourages you to do tasks that are beneficial to you, over the years, you would end up creating positive habits.
It saves brain energy for more difficult tasks (this could translate to reduced stress)
Having a morning routine gives you an idea of how your day would go for the most part. For example, you know from your morning routine that you need to wake up by 6:30 am and say your prayers, go to the gym, come home, make breakfast, and journal. This removes the stress of having to wake up and think “should I write in my journal first” or “do I need to go to the gym today”. Because you already have a routine that you follow, you don’t have to think about what activities come after the other. Rather you would save your brainpower for other tasks that are spontaneous and you have no way of knowing what to expect. This would help you remain refreshed and less stressed at least earlier in the day.
Prevents procrastination
Creating a morning routine helps to prevent Procrastination. Because you have a plan on how your day is supposed to go, you are less likely to procrastinate. We are more likely to procrastinate when we have not set aside time to complete a certain task. For example, if you have it in your morning routine that you need to be at the gym by 7 am, you are more likely to be at the gym by 7 am than if you only say to yourself, I need to go to the gym. sometime this week. That way, you end up going to the gym and not procrastinating as might have if you didn’t have a routine.
It makes you feel in control
Having a routine makes you feel in control. This is because you are less likely to feel overwhelmed by the things that you have to do in your day. Your routine would make you have an understanding of what tasks comes after what. That way, you stay on top of tasks and not get overwhelmed.
