Summary

Bubbie the dog offers insights into human unhappiness, suggesting that overthinking, pretense, comparison, unmet expectations, and ingratitude contribute to dissatisfaction.

Abstract

In an article written from the perspective of a dog named Bubbie, the author explores the reasons behind human unhappiness. Bubbie observes that humans tend to overthink about the future and dwell on the past, which leads to anxiety and disconnection from the present. The dog emphasizes the importance of being authentic and not pretending to be someone else, as this can cause misunderstandings and arguments within the 'pack' or community. Bubbie also notes that comparing oneself to others, especially on social media, can create a sense of failure and dissatisfaction. Furthermore, the article suggests that life's unpredictability can be an opportunity for better outcomes if one adapts and remains positive. Lastly, Bubbie points out that humans often fail to appreciate what they have, advocating for gratitude for the 'small things' in life, including the companionship of pets.

Opinions

  • Humans worry excessively about the future and ruminate on the past, which detracts from their present happiness.
  • Pretending to be someone else is exhausting and leads to feelings of disconnection and pack disharmony.
  • Comparing oneself to others, particularly through the lens of social media, is misleading and detrimental to self-esteem.
  • Life's unpredictability should be embraced as it can lead to unexpected positive outcomes.
  • Humans often overlook the importance of gratitude, especially for the joy and companionship that pets provide.
  • Bubbie, as a dog, models contentment by living authentically and in the moment.

5 Reasons Why Humans Aren’t Happy

If you do like me, you’ll end up happy

I’m always wondering why my humans aren’t happy. Since I’m a dog my life sometimes feels a bit limited.

And yes I’m back writing. It’s me, Bubbie.

When my human calls for me to come inside, I’ll go inside. I wish she would ask me if I wanted to go inside. Perhaps I’d rather want to be outside chasing birds. Or barking at the mailman.

My human doesn’t like it when I bark at the mailman. She says he gets afraid. Once a mail woman ran inside her car because she thought I would hurt her.

Before you say anything, I’m not evil. I’m loud. I’ve never hurt anyone. Still, everyone knows that you can’t trust the mailman or women. I will protect my humans from letter bombs. I’m certain I’ll find one someday.

Anyways from all my encounters with humans, I’ve noticed that many of them aren’t happy. I asked myself why, and I think I’ve found the reasons behind it.

1. Humans think too much

In my experience, humans worry too much about the future. Worrying about something that might happen in a week doesn’t make sense to me. It will cause anxiety. Humans, will you please worry about it when it happens instead?

When you, humans don’t think about the future, you think about the past. Yes, you did something stupid 4 weeks ago. Can you do anything with it now? No? Then why worry about it?

Humans, I’m only going to say this once, live in the present. Do you think I would be constantly happy if I would worry about my human yelling at me because I scare the mailman frequently? No.

And look at me, I’m happy and I’m barking at the mailman. A win-win situation.

2. You pretend to be something you’re not

Humans, you’re good enough as you are. Pretending to be something you’re not is not only exhausting, but it also makes you feel disconnected.

I’m always 100% myself, making me a happy dog. If I’m happy I show it. If I’m sad I show it. I’ll never pretend to be something I’m not.

I’ve noticed that humans often misunderstand each other when they’re pretending to be something they’re not. Misunderstandings lead to arguments.

Arguments aren’t good for the pack. And we’re all pack animals. Or at least most of us. We want to feel like we belong somewhere.

3. You compare yourself and your life to others

Life is not a competition. Dogs don’t have a competition about who can chase the biggest amount of mailmen. Yes, we might fight over food. But when everyone has a full belly, everything is great.

Comparing your life to others will make you unhappy. I’ve heard that humans have something called social media. It’s an odd place where everyone post about the best thing in life. They rarely show the bad stuff.

Social media makes normal humans think they are failures. I know this is wrong. Humans are rarely failures. I’ve never met a human who can’t scratch my belly if they want to.

If you can scratch my belly, you’re a success.

4. Life is not happening how you believed it would

You can’t plan everything in life. Sometimes you just have to go with the flow. There are days when the mailman doesn’t come to deliver mail to us.

I could stay inside and be sad about it. But I don’t. I run outside and chase birds instead.

Because things don’t happen how you think they should, doesn’t mean that it’s all bad. Your life could turn out better than you ever imagined if you try to make the best of it.

Life isn’t always easy but it’s all better with a positive mindset. Try to find a solution.

5. Humans aren’t grateful for what they have

Disclaimer, sometimes I want attention all the time. This doesn’t mean that I’m not grateful for the attention I get.

I’ve noticed that humans always want more. Nothing is ever good enough. Humans, please take a small break and be grateful. Grateful for your amazing pets.

We know we make your days 1000000x times better. Now it’s time for you to realize it too. Be grateful for the small things you have in life.

Be grateful for the evening walk with your dog. I know you have plenty to be grateful for.

Humans, we pets want you to be happy. Now try the best you can. And if you’re ever sad, I promise we’ll do our best to lick your tears away.
