5 Reasons to Move to Brazil In 2023
Brazil doesn’t come down to carnival and soccer

Gringos usually have preconceptions about Brazil. Some make sense, others don’t, and some are quite offensive, mainly regarding women.
As a Brazilian who has never left his country, I want to clarify what I always tell foreigners I speak with daily: why one should move to Brazil as soon as possible.
1. Brazil is very affordable
Some people believe Brazil is an expensive destination. I am positive that this is wrong, even if you come to Brazil with the sole intention of being a tourist.
I intend to write more content on this topic. For now, it’s more than enough to say that one can live in Brazil for $ 250 to $ 500 with a frugal lifestyle.
Even with this little amount of money, which for someone being paid in US dollars is cheap, to say the least, it’s possible to have everything one needs, like a decent shelter, amazing food, and clothing.
For example, where I live is considered an expensive city. Yet, one can rent a private room for less than $ 150 a month; with groceries, one can spend less than $ 150 as well. In the countryside, the prices are even lower.
Of course, some people spend far more than this, mainly if they live in even more expensive spots, like some regions of São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. This doesn’t mean, however, that the numbers I quoted are wrong.
Oh, and I am not taking into account options like work exchange because it’s not something specific to Brazil, besides being a very controversial path to take.
Anyway, with this option, it’s possible to live here almost for free, having shelter and food in exchange for a reasonable amount of work.
In the case of English native speakers, this work may be just speaking with people in their native language.
2. Brazil is beautiful and has great weather

This is what Florianópolis looks like, with its more than 40 beaches.
Besides being really affordable to live in Brazil, one can do it in some paradises, like Florianópolis.
The best part is that in places like this, the weather is excellent, neither too hot in summer nor impossible to endure when it’s winter, even without central heating (which we don’t use here).
3. Brazilian food is amazing
Junk food is already ubiquitous in Brazil, mainly in urban settings, but you don’t need to choose to live in big cities, and even if you do so, you’ll notice that in our culture, people usually eat whole foods when it’s lunch and the other meals they eat at home.
Fast food is reserved for more specific occasions, not something we usually do daily.
Brazilian food is something that I cannot explain. It’s necessary to taste it to understand how amazing our food is, from beans to fruits that you won’t easily find elsewhere.
4. Brazil has lots of different cultures
These days a Dutch guy told me something that makes sense. According to him, as a Brazilian, I shouldn’t worry about traveling abroad (which I’ve never done).
After all, just in this huge country, one finds completely different cultures and ways of living.
It’s possible to have a very urbanized lifestyle in places like São Paulo and on weekends go to beautiful beaches, with great weather, or if one has more available time, why not go to the Amazon and see a whole different country?
5. People are usually nice
Yes, Brazilians are welcoming, even though sometimes we try to copy foreign cultures way too much, for example, when it comes to political polarization.
This point dismisses another myth about Brazil, according to which it’s a dangerous place to visit and live.
Of course, as usually happens with any other country, Brazil has dangerous cities. Even so, taking basic precautions or living in the countryside tends to be more than enough to feel pretty safe and welcomed.
