If applied, they can change your whole life.

I wonder, why do we love quotes so much? I think I have the answer quotes remind us of the essence of life we know deep down but tend to forget.

I‘ve read for years different kinds of self-improvement books; from different authors. But no one impressed me so much as the books by Benjamin Hardy. He has a neat opinion about people and life. He makes easier points than we think are difficult.

I confess I read 2 of those; the first one was,” Willpower Doesn’t Work,” which impressed me a lot; he explains how the environment is crucial to clean our path to achieve our goals instead of relying on will power. The way he explains is so clean and practical that it is easy to apply in daily life.

The second book was “Personality isn’t Permanent,” which I highly recommend to everyone. This is a clear explanation of how we can change and how our experiences and society tag ourselves. As always, amazing the way he explains everything. I think everyone must read to realize that we can change and not be guided by prototypes.

Let's see some of the most valuables quotes I found from those books to help you in your everyday life.

Don't use your past experiences as an excuse

“People use the past as the excuse to remain stuck in habits and attitudes that keep them from growing.”

People use the experiences to tag themselves, things like I am introvert or extrovert, just because you didn’t like to talk too much.

Some people had bad experiences as someone told you, you are not good at writing. And after that, you don’t want to write at all.

They don’t understand it is just a fact. The real meaning is the meaning you want to give to it. You are not the same person you were 3 years ago. Everyone keeps changing according to the new experiences you are getting day by day.

How to apply this quote in your daily life

Be aware of it; you keep changing. If you tagged yourself as an introvert before, stop doing that. And start changing your habits and trying new things. For example:

  • If you say yourself, you don’t like to read. Now try a book that you feel curious about.
  • If you say you don’t like to talk, start a conversation with someone you don’t know.
  • If you say you don’t like to run, go for a run, and you will realize that it wasn’t that bad.

How many times I told myself that I am not good for running, I will never do that. And here I’m, running 3 times a week and finally love it.

Get used to rejection

“Prefer being rejected at your new standard than being accepted at your old one.”

If you embrace the idea to change, and you know that you are not doing right to grow as a person, and you decide to change, people will notice the difference, and they will talk about it and even criticize. This is a barrier you have to leap. Do not hesitate and keep going toward your new standard as a person.

Sometimes we don’t want to change because of the pressure of people. We want to avoid everyone's criticism, showing the new person we want to be, and acting like him.

How to apply this quote in your daily life

I felt this quote; I really did. When I started writing and publish, for me was a nightmare to be exposed. When I started to publish, people started to ask, What are you doing? Are you crazy? You are not a writer, you a chef, so you have to cook. Later on, they already got used to seeing my post and even commenting on my articles.

Just leap the barrier, and you will see that nothing happens. People just get used to it.

The more you own the power of your own decision-making, the more your life and outcomes will be within your control.

Stop tagging yourself

“Labeling yourself is one of the fastest ways to become mindless about context.”

People love to tag themselves as authentic, creative, introverted, or extrovert. We create and keep boundaries in our life, and we believe it. We really believe we can’t do my things because we create our own limits into our minds. Hence you start to think:

  • You are not creative hence you don't waste time creating anything.
  • You are an introvert, so you can talk to a new person, you don't even try.
  • You are an extrovert, so you can’t stay at home alone on Friday night.
  • You are authentic, so you can say whatever you want without a filter. And people are supposed to like it.

Doing this is just neglecting the ability to learn new things and putting yourself in a box with limits and boundaries.

How to apply this quote in your daily life

As I said before, stop being in that box. Start to change your unconscious mind; try different things every day. You will surprise how many things you can learn and create.

Believe you are a creative person; everyone has creativity inside. Stop tagging you as an authentic, introvert, extrovert, and not a creative person and always try different things. For example, you can try this.

  • Take another route to go to your job. New ways bring us new ideas.
  • Try to play different sports; if you like soccer, try at least once basketball or tennis.
  • If you don't like seafood, try this time. Maybe from now, you will love it.

Lately, I have tried tennis. I love soccer, but it was a big surprise. I end up loving both.

Be aware and present

“If you’re not living consciously, you’re living subconsciously… you’re essentially on autopilot being who you were yesterday.”

Be aware that our mind loves shortcuts. It doesn't like to work much; it tries to avoid using our conscious mind because we have to think and dissect more.

Basically, our mind is getting information from our experiences in the past. It doesn't mean it is the right information. So let make a pause and analyze if that decision is right or wrong without reacting. It will be the first act you should do.

How to apply this quote in your daily life

Make a pause, turn off your autopilot button. Think and analyze before you act. You can ask this question.

Is this action goes according to the person that I want to be?

It is always a good time to check ourselves. To see if we are on the right path if not move on.

Start to act as who you want to be

“Without a future self, you don’t know who you are today. It doesn’t matter who you are if you don’t know who you plan to be.”

This is essential if you want to grow, you have to picture yourself, who you want to be in the future and then lead your actions accordingly. The best way to do that just minds every day and act to the person you want to be.

There is said that I didn't like it before, but it works, “ fake it until you make it.”

Start to act from now as the person you want to be.

How to apply this quote in your daily life

This is my mantra in my everyday life, I don’t know what your future self is, but be accountable with your actions in your everyday life. Success is the result of your everyday actions. Ask yourself always.

Is this action will make the boat run faster? This will help me to be the person I want to be?

In conclusion

Benjamin Hardy, through his books, is an inspiration for me. He is a real role model to follow; I really encourage to read the last book; it is life-changing.

After reading it, you will see the world from a totally different perspective. Give it a try, and you will grow faster. And remember:

  • Don’t use past experiences as an excuse.
  • Get used to rejection.
  • Stop tagging yourself.
  • Be present, avoid autopilot mode.
  • And start from now to act like the person you want to be.
