5 Not So Stupid Reasons Why Men Should Read Romance Novels

Getting ahead of the game

Would you agree that men can sometimes be stereotyped and buried under unwritten codes of conduct that limit their ability to express their deep and sensitive nature?

Men who love their mothers, adore their sisters, respect their female friends, and strive to understand the woman they love have often been made to feel that those feelings make them less of a man.

But what does all this have to do with reading romance novels?

Understanding how a woman thinks, feels, and reacts to life, in general, can’t be anything but helpful. But understanding how they work through romantic relationships and what they are looking for in a life-mate, puts a man ahead of the game.

All this information is weaved through the pages of many of today’s romance novels. Let me make this point clear — I’m not talking about the stories labeled EROTICA. Those, in my opinion, have nothing to do with serious romance and relationship building. And those labeled HOT, HOT, HOT with high heat levels fall into that same category. They’re written for one purpose only, to sell books to today’s sex-crazed market.

On the other hand, there are some very talented writers who can take you from despair to ecstasy, hate to love, friend to lovers in a story that has an actual plot and deep characterization. Those are romance novels that can give insight into a woman’s thoughts and feelings.

So you want some reasons for reading romance novels, right?

  1. Men also need a break: Finding a few moments now and then to escape life’s harsh realities through the pages of a book shouldn’t be a pleasure exclusive to women.
  2. Men also enjoy the concept of happy ever after: Who doesn’t like to view a movie or read a story that leaves them feeling good about life and relationships. In every good romance story, there is a man who is every bit as interested in a loving and long-lasting commitment as any woman. Men do care about and need a love that lasts forever.
  3. Good romance stories are good life-relationship teachers: Yes, you can learn to be a better boyfriend, friend, and husband by harvesting the romantic gems you’ll find in these stories. Learning about what a woman sees as conflict, motivation, and acceptable resolution to problems can be a treasure chest if used properly.
  4. Reading together is a great couple activity: Men and women have very different interests and hobbies. Finding something you can share with your significant other isn’t always easy. Reading romance novels together is fun and exciting. And it leads to some hilarious conversations!
  5. Men need relationship DIY manuals: Men have all kinds of manuals for their electronics, vehicles, appliances, power tools, and the list goes on. But I would safely say that very few have relationship manuals, of any kind. Quality romance novels can fill that gap. Read them for pleasure, information, instruction, and examples.

I know you’re probably skeptical at this point. So why not prove the concept for yourself. You might have just found your next favorite pastime activity.
