5 Movies That Predicted The Coronavirus Outbreak
You Will Never Regret Giving These Movies A Try!

A positive take form The Coronavirus Pandemic is that, it has inspired many writers to come up with new topics to write, and that’s why I’m here with 5 movies that kind of predicted the massive Coronavirus outbreak. I bet you guys won’t regret watching these movies. I have given you the plot and how these movies contribute to the current situation faced by the whole world. No major spoiler has been disclosed, so you can still enjoy these movies after reading this piece.
1. Contagion (2011)
Even the scientists believe that the depiction of how the virus evolved and how it spread is the closest to real-life events. The disease in the film, called MEV-1 in nature, is zoonotic. The movie shows us how it all started. A bulldozer razes trees in which the bats live. In the cleared room is established a pigpen. A bat is seen dropping a piece of banana it’s eating and a pig consuming it and being infected in turn. Later, a chef butchers the pig prepares it as a pie, and then shakes hands with the character of Gwyneth Paltrow, infecting her. Whoever she falls into touch with is a possible victim and host and the remainder of the film is spent coding the chain that doctors are doing in real-life circumstances at the moment. And her husband, played by Matt Damon, doesn’t get infected. This is also not unlikely since it is seen that certain individuals have an inbuilt immunity to these items.
2. My Secret Terrius (2018)
An episode of this immensely successful South Korean drama series listed coronavirus as a bioweapon created by man. The episode has a man telling his wife to stay safely in their house. This is just like the suggestions we are already being bombarded with on social distancing. The episode also has a doctor explaining that this mutated coronavirus targets the respiratory organs — something that is also true of coronavirus in the real-life climate. The film Outbreak in 1995 too spoke of the US creating a superbug as a bioweapon.
3. Pandemic (2007)
At the start of this mini-series, two American surfers are seen at an Australian beach saying goodbye to each other. They do not note the bodies of birds lying around. The surfer returning home on the flight begins to coughing up blood and dies before the plane can land. In Australia, the other surfer’s found dead. The authorities begin to process people to be placed into quarantine so they can be tested for exposure. One of the passengers escapes to settle a business agreement during their move to a remote location and unknowingly spreads the virus all over Los Angeles. It’s also revealed that virus outbreaks also occur in many cities across the world.
4. Fatal Contact: Bird Flu in America (2006)
Some people are expecting a Doomsday-like scenario and they’d be delighted to see this horrific film come true that reveals all of their bleak predictions. An American businessman is diagnosed with a mutated bird flu virus as he visits China. Soon, it infects America, and then the rest of the world. Food shortages are everywhere, rioting and looting are becoming commonplace and as many as 350 million people die worldwide. The future is still grim because just as the authorities think they have defeated the virus, news comes that a small village in Angola is being wiped out by a new virus mutation.
5. Virus (1980)
This is a Japanese film that describes an ‘Italian Flu’ epidemic that has wiped out so much of the world’s population. The irony is also mind-boggling considering that Italy was leading the death count when it all started. A group of refugees finds shelter on Antarctica but over the motley crew of virus-free individuals, the threat of a nuclear war perpetuated by Russia is looming large. It was said that the film was the most expensive Japanese film made at the time and had several Hollywood faces.
There are several other movies too, that with the storyline which nearly close to our current situation of the world. Some other examples are; 12 Monkeys (1995), Outbreak (1995), Quarantine (2008), Flue (2003) and etc.. some of them are about the zombie apocalypse.
It’s pretty interesting when we see and hear things such as quarantine, social distancing, and Virus outbreaks in movies that we’re facing currently in real life. I Would personally choose these 5 movies mentioned above as the ones I felt that they reflect the exact same situation that we’re in right now.
