5 Life Lessons We Should All Learn from Trump Political Career!

A political “newbie” was elected into the most powerful office on earth. How did this happen and what should we learn?

I wrote this unpublished article Four years ago, just before the presidential election between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump, at the time, no one knew who would win, and everyone was shocked at the brash talking businessman who had managed to clinch the Republican nomination for the White House; As we welcome a new president in Joe Biden, everyone needs to remember this, while we should hold our leaders accountable, no one leader has the solution to the world’s problem or even your problem. Politicians are politicians not messiahs.; you are your own solution. It is foolish to fight with friends and family over differing political views

I remember watching the Wendy Williams Show shortly after Donald Trump announced his bid to run for president. After she and her panel had analyzed the Trump campaign, and the drama behind it, they concluded by saying that Trump was a joke and would drop out after a while. Wendy was not the only one who thought Trump was a joke, I thought so too!

Well, this is barely one year after Trump announced his bid to become president, and some of us are already apprehensive at the prospect of having someone so eccentric as the president of the most powerful country in the world.

Yet, there are lessons to be learned, and below, I have highlighted five lessons we should all learn from the unprecedented rise in the political career of Donald Trump.

Lesson One: In life, anything is truly possible, do not always believe the experts.

When the Wright brothers came up with the idea of an object that can fly in the air as a means of transportation, people laughed at their odd creation, and many learned professionals and acclaimed experts taunted them to give up such worthless expedition.

Today, thanks to the diligence and tenacity of the Wright Brothers, air travel has become a settled part of our existence.

Just like the Wright brothers, everyone, who was somebody; established political scientists, prominent political analysts, respected political experts, celebrities, even members of his party concluded that Trump was a waste of time. It was an obvious conclusion. He was a brash, uncompromising political newbie who appeared to put his foot in his mouth every time he spoke.

Curiously, candidate Trump has continued to survive scandals that would otherwise have eviscerated the political future of a career politician.

Today, everyone is being compelled to take him a little more seriously, seeing he has somehow managed to win the Republican ticket for the presidency. He was the underdog that was completely written off by the experts, yet somehow, he won.

Do not always believe the expert, sometimes they can be wrong.

Lesson Two: It does not matter what happens to you, what MATTERS is how you react to what happens.

This is so cliché, but very true! Trump always finds a way of positively explaining things that have gone negative for him. It doesn’t matter how glaringly embarrassing the situation is, Trump has on many occasions expertly turned and manipulated negative press to cast him as a winner.

Do you remember when President Obama “roasted” “The Donald” at the 2011 White House correspondent dinner, eloquently, smoothly, with well thought out, excellently delivered humor, I remember thinking surely there is no coming back from this.

President Obama amongst other things had said “…. They say Donald lacks the foreign policy experience to be president, but in fairness, he has spent years meeting with leaders from around the world: Miss Sweden, Miss Argentina, Miss Azerbaijan,”

Somehow, Donald Trump managed to downplay what was quite frankly a very public humiliation from a sitting president. What did Trump do? He owned the jibe, introduced his narrative, and touted his achievements.

Trump may be a bully, but he is probably also the most derided figure in modern politics. Everything about his private and public life that can be used to throw “shade” at him has been used, and now we are out of material. We have “ mocked” his hair, laughed at his failed businesses, pointed out his inconsistencies in policies, and made remarks on his racist and sexist statements.

We have noted how illogical, impractical, incredulous, and unattainable some of his proposed policies are. We have said that he is inexperienced, incompetent, and incapable, yet for some funny, inexplicable reason, the guy shrugs his shoulders and simply says “I will be great for America”.

Truly, it does not matter what people say about you, or who says what about you, what matters at the end of the day is what you believe for yourself.

Lesson Three: If you take yourself and what you do seriously, people will eventually be compelled to take you seriously.

Very few people took Trump seriously, UNTIL.NOW! Trump was very vocal and unequivocal about his ambition to become President even when the entire world thought he was a joke. Today, this political newbie is an election away from becoming the president of the United States of America.

Trump is his own hype- man, and perhaps the greatest hype man ever.

Take yourself and your business seriously, be your own hype man and watch how the world reacts.

Lesson Four; You can only be the best version of yourself.

This lesson is from Mrs. Trump. She claims to like Mrs. Obama, and so plagiarized some of Michelle Obama’s speech. The plagiarism scandal that rocked the Trump campaign was entirely avoidable.

Mrs. Trump just needed to be herself, tell her own story, use her own voice, and engage the services of a very good speechwriter. Authenticity never fails.

Be yourself. You are unique and you are enough.

Lesson Five would depend on if Donald Trump wins or loses the general elections in November.

If Trump wins the Election; then the lesson is; “you should probably apply for that job you want, even if you do not have the experience or qualifications”.

I think this point, has already been made anyway. It appears that what experience and knowledge do not give you, self-confidence can. A vocal self-confident person with no experience may be the preferred candidate over an experienced and knowledgeable, not so vocal, not so self-confident person

If Trump loses, the lesson would be you can only deceive people for so long, substance will always win, and ignorance will always show! At the end of the day, people want those who can do the job and deliver results.
