5 Legit Ways to Make $1000 a Month From Home
It’s 2020 and a lot can be accomplished from your home office
COVID-19 made the world go remote…
From a moment to the other, we all seem to be capable of working from home.
And isn’t that incredible?
I do believe so…
We are saving so much time by not commuting!
The extra time gives us the amazing opportunity to take a new hobby and turn it into a side hustle.
A side hustle can help to accelerate the process of building financial security and allows us to diversify our income.
Today, all we need to start a small business is a computer and an Internet connection.
Something that was unimaginable years ago!
We all now have the same setup to build a legit side hustle that can add an additional $1000 to our monthly income.
Here are my 5 choices that everyone can try…
Side Hustle 1: Testing Websites/Apps
There are several companies using real people as testers of websites and mobile applications.
Some examples are Userfeel and TrymyUI.
Usually, to become a valid tester, you have to download software that records your screen and your voice.
A test is composed of a series of tasks related to a website/application usage. Customers of such companies want to evaluate how real users interact with their interfaces.
After you are qualified as a tester, you may receive 3 to 10 requests per month. Each test may take 10 to 20 minutes and you may expect $10 to $20 per test.
Side Hustle 2: Proofreading
Writers and businesses are constantly producing new content. All this content needs to be screened and validated. Hiring a proofreader brings that extra pair of eyes.
A proofreader is a person that checks for typos, misspellings, inconsistencies, and grammar mistakes.
You as a proofreader can connect with writers and contribute to their work before publication.
Some of the content you may review can be:
- Website pages
- Blog posts
- Presentations
- Transcripts
While there are several places to become an online proofreader, I’ve started at Proofread Anywhere to learn more about the art of proofreading.
You can then offer your services on platforms like Fiverr or Upwork.
Depending on the length of the text to review, you may be able to cash $20 to $30 in a 500-word article/post.
Side Hustle 3: Selling Photos
If you happen to be an amateur photographer like me, you can make some money selling your photos.
Just like in this article, I have used a photo to complement the title and the content. The same is done by news agencies, bloggers, and authors.
Since I had quite a large collection of photos of all my travels over the years, I did not mind sharing them with the world. I mostly focus on everyday scenes, landscapes, monuments, streets, and nature.
Here are some of the large media stores to consider:
As I’m not a professional photographer, I consider $5 to $10 per photo as a very acceptable reward.
So if you are really into photography, I would say $30 per photo can be a reasonable expectation.
Side Hustle 4: Start an Etsy Store
Etsy is one of the largest marketplaces for handmade and vintage goods.
Buyers on Etsy are looking to find handcrafted products rather than mass-produced goods.
It also acts as an outlet for small business owners such as art shops. People with artistic skills can also showcase their goods and potentially sell their items to a larger audience from day 1.
I consider Etsy as a much simpler and direct approach than building a website from scratch or even using Shopify.
While I am still building my digital product, Etsy will be my place of choice based on the simplicity of operation.
Side Hustle 5: Become a Writer
Least but not last, writing can make you money.
This same platform through the Medium Partner Program helps writers to earn extra income. While anyone can create a profile and start writing some content, the vast majority of writers write for an already established publication.
However Medium is not the only road for writers. A personal blog can also serve as a vehicle to share your thoughts and then you can start monetizing it through affiliate marketing or advertising.
You will need a hosting service like Siteground to make your site available to the world.
There is also a third option. You can write for businesses or other people that lack the time or the will to write content about a specific topic.
Once again, freelancer platforms such as Fiverr can be a launching pad for you to become a freelance writer.
In Summary
All of the above are genuine and legit ways to make money from home.
While some of these side hustle suggestions can seem quite daunting at the start, making a regular income from one or some of these sources is definitely possible.
“It’s all about putting the hard work and be consistent, as with anything in life.”
At some point, I will have to focus on specific side hustles instead of taking them all. Time is a limited asset so we better use it wisely.
I urge you to try at least one of the above.
