Small improvements on a daily basis lead to much bigger improvements over time, according to the Kaizen principle.

Although it’s often applied to business processes, this principle can be applied to every area of your life.

It’s definitely possible to improve all aspects of your life by taking a series of small steps.

Here are some quotes to empower you to take small steps forward every day.

“Sometimes the smallest step in the right direction ends up being the biggest step of your life. Tiptoe if you must, but take a step.” Naeem Callaway

This is one of my favorite quotes. It’s displayed on the window ledge, close to my desk.

When I feel like procrastinating or making an excuse for not taking a step forward, it reminds me that the step that I’m avoiding or putting off could be the biggest step of my life.

So, I need to take it, without thinking about it too much, without delay. If doesn’t end up being the biggest step of my life, that’s OK. At least I’ll know it’s not the best way forward.

But, if it does end up being the most important step of my life, wouldn’t that be wonderful! Wouldn’t I be so pleased and thrilled that I’d taken that one small step?!

“Do what you can, with what you’ve got, where you are.” Squire Bill Widener

This quote has inspired me for some time. It reminds me that I don’t need to be a different person, I don’t need to have more, and I don’t need to be somewhere else before I can move forward with my life.

I can move forward right now, by thinking of what I can do, with the resources I have now, from exactly where I’m sitting.

I need to stop focusing on what I can’t do in my current circumstances.

Yes, there may be many things I can’t do, but there are also many things I can do!

I need to focus on those things and set myself goals based on the things I can do right now, rather than holding myself back by thinking about all the things I’d like to do, if only…

We all need to start somewhere. Why not start where you are right now, no matter what you have and whatever is happening in your life?

By the way, this quote is often attributed to Theodore Roosevelt. However, in his autobiography, Roosevelt clearly attributes it to Squire Bill Widener of Widener’s Valley, Virginia.

“The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step.” Lao Tzu

Life is an exciting journey but the things we want are rarely, if ever, handed to us on a plate. We have to work towards them, and we start by taking one single, small step.

That step may frighten or terrify us, but that’s OK. It’s OK to be afraid of moving forward, just don’t let the fear stop you from doing so.

Take that small step today, even if you’re afraid, even if you don’t want to, even if your mind tries to talk you out of it. My mind tries to do that all the time!

You’ll feel amazing once you’ve taken that small step. And that wonderful feeling will help you take the next step.

“If you can’t fly then run, if you can’t run then walk, if you can’t walk then crawl, but whatever you do you have to keep moving forward.” Martin Luther King Jr.

There have been times in my life when I felt “stuck,” as if I was a victim of circumstance. I didn’t feel like there was anything I could do to change my situation.

Looking back, I didn’t really help myself at these times. Often, I didn’t even take a small step forward. I just felt bad about my life — and that feeling didn’t improve my life in any way. In fact, it probably held me back from moving forward.

Sometimes, we’re not in a position to make a giant leap forward, or to fly as Martin Luther King Jr describes it. We might not even be able to move forward quickly (run) or at a reasonable pace (walk), but, no matter what our circumstances, we can crawl forward by taking one small step at a time.

The good news is that, over time, all your small steps will add up to a giant leap forward. You’ll be flying so high that no one will be able to stop you!

“Each step you take reveals a new horizon. You have taken the first step today. Now I challenge you to take another.” Dan Poynter

If you don’t know how to reach a goal, just take one step — the step that seems to be the best way forward, even if you’re not sure if it is the best way forward.

Once you’ve taken that step, you’ll be wiser. You’ll know what the next step should be. Even if you’re still not sure, just take another step, so that you move forward.

It can be discouraging if you take a lot of small steps and you seem to be no further forward. But ask yourself if this is really true or if your mind is playing tricks on you. Look back to where you were before you started taking these steps and see how your life has changed for the better.

Of course, you probably haven’t achieved all the things you want to achieve, but that’s OK. Perhaps your expectations were too high. Perhaps you just need more time. Perhaps you need to move in a slightly different direction.

When taking small steps, you often don’t seem immediate results. You might see some good results after a short time. These encourage you to move forward further.

You might then get to a point where it feels like you’re not moving forward at all. You may even feel like you’re slipping back.

At this point, it’s more important than ever to take more small steps forward, even if you don’t feel like it, even if you feel like you’ll never reach your destination, even if everything seems hopeless.

Things can change from day to day. We can accomplish great things if we allow ourselves to. Never give up on your dreams. Keep moving forward with those small steps, even on the most difficult days.

I hope these quotes will encourage you to keep moving forward, even if you take very tiny steps.
