I moved to Vancouver, BC, from the most eastern part of Canada in 2017 to enjoy the warm weather. Vancouver is a beautiful and highly multicultural city. You can find almost every nationality in the booming city.

Almost everyone carries an umbrella for at least 6 months in Vancouver. I enjoyed the warm weather in July, August, and September. Being new to Vancouver, I did not know that November was the wettest month with at least 188mm precipitation.

Locals call Raincouver instead of Vancouver.

As an avid hiker who loves to walk, I learned the top 5 benefits of walking in the rain while living in the most beautiful city.

1- Nature connection

Walking, hiking, and/or running outside always positively affect your overall health. I am a huge fan of spending time in nature regardless of the seasons. After hiking in rainy, snowy, and hot weather, I can share that nature also boost your mental health.

Many people live in urban areas, far from the natural forest. Walking in the rain can help you connect with nature even if you live in a congested area. At the end of the rainy walk, your body will thank you by producing more endorphins to make you happy.

2-Good for skin health

Study shows that the environment plays a pivotal role in your skin health. When the humidity levels are at least 43%, only 14% of virus particles could transmit disease. Rain also drives to increases the air’s humidity because of the evaporation effect, which is excellent to freshen our skin and live a healthy life.

3- Sound of rain

We know that rain sounds are soothing and considered white noise, which means a steady sound. There are many successful Youtube channels to share live rain sounds. This is my favorite.

But if you are living in Vancouver. You don’t need a youtube channel to hear the sounds while relaxing, sleeping, or studying.

4- Fresh air and smell of earth

The word is petrichor, which means the smell of earth after rain. I love the smell of earth after the first rain.

We all know that rain also purifies the atmosphere, good for our lungs. Rain removes the dust, toxin, and pollen that cause raspatory issues.

I used to sit on the porch in Vancouver and study for my GMAT exam. I accomplished a lot while listening to the sounds of rain. When the rain clears the sky, there is a high chance to spot the rainbow.

5- Boost your metabolism

Study shows that the body needs more energy when we exercise in cold weather. We burn more calories when we are physically active in wet or cold weather. I used to run in the rain to get some extra endorphins while living in Vancouver. But I have moved to a different city amid the pandemic, a hill station.

Next time, if you are in Vancouver and it’s raining, go for a run to burn some extra calories.
