5 Gut Instincts You Shouldn’t Ignore

#1 When Something Feels Wrong In Your Body
Many health care providers say that a lot of people catch smaller health issues before they became a more serious issue because they listened to their body. When some people wait too long to seek care for something that doesn’t feel right, sometimes it can develop into something even bigger and more difficult to treat.
In addition, feeling “wrong” around certain people or in certain places is also a cue from your body that can come in the form of anxiety, stress, or depression. If something feels wrong for you, it’s best to try and avoid those situations as much as possible (It’s time to move, make new friends, or change jobs for example). If you’re having trouble figuring out what’s going on and what you should do next, it’s a good idea to seek help from a therapist who can guide you on the next steps to take.
#2 Feeling You’re In Danger
Everyone knows that “Uh oh” feeling and that’s a cue from your body telling you that something isn’t right or safe. If you tell other people, they may see where you’re coming from and agree or they may think you are overreacting. It’s best to trust your own gut on this one — your perception of the situation is ultimately what matters. Maybe the same situation wouldn’t feel threatening to some people you know, but for you it just feels wrong. When your intuition warns you, act as quickly as possible to ensure your safety. That could mean leaving an area, setting a boundary, limiting contact, or locking a door.
#3 When You Know You’ve Got This
We all have our strengths and weaknesses. There are some fields or areas that you thrive and do well in. Once you’ve reached a certain level career-wise or creativity-wise, it’s best not to think too much about doing it better or not messing it up. When you know you’re a pro at something, it’s best just to go for it and let things fall naturally where they’re meant to. You didn’t get this far without using some of those skills before.
#4 “I Want To Help”
Helping others is a privilege. Sometimes we’re not in a situation to give help or offer a hand when we’re struggling ourselves. There’s other times when you are able and happy to help. When you see someone in need and know you have something to offer them, it’s a good idea to act on that gut instinct. Even a small act of kindness can really turn someone’s day around. Even if someone were to refuse your help, that’s okay. Maybe your gesture helped soften them to someone else helping them in the future.
#5 “This Is It!”
You know that feeling when something just feels right for you? It’s easy, smooth, and makes you excited to wake up everyday? That’s your thing. This is what ‘following your heart” really is. This means your internal guide has led you to the outcome you’ve hoped for and you’ve made it. “This is it!” interestingly doesn’t feel conflicted or forced. If something feels okay, but you’ve left something that made you a lot happier for it, listen to that warning sign. Some people don’t and they can end up in an unhappy cycle for decades.
Following your heart leads you to situations that are mentally and emotionally satisfying — which means your quality of life is much higher than it would have been if you didn’t follow your heart.
