5 Good Reasons To Take Your Car To The Mechanic
#5 Is Gratitude
Yesterday I had an appointment at the garage, to replace a light bulb in my car. On the phone, I insisted on being helped on time, since I had another appointment later on. The mechanic told me it would take just a few minutes.
When I got there, they were busy with another car, and I realized they couldn’t start working on my car on time, as I expected and asked.
Great! I had the opportunity to put into practice a few positive emotions!
1. Patience was the first I applied, waiting for things to get solved while I was waiting.
While I was waiting outside to let the previous car get out easily, a big black car entered the garage, and it took my place. The driver was speaking on the phone, he entered the garage and interrupted another conversation, while still on the phone.
I thought he wanted to go before me, so I entered the room and gently said “I am afraid I am next in line”.
2. Calm and respect, these are the feelings I tried to share.
He gave me some explanation without apologizing or saying “Buongiorno”. He didn’t move his car.
A third car arrived and blocked the access to the garage, where I should have put my car. It was the son of the man on the phone, he came to pick up his father.
3. Silence. I looked at him and didn’t say a word.
The two went and finally, it was my turn. I was 30 minutes late for my next appointment. The mechanic did not apologize, even if he was well aware of my story.
He finished my car and when I was paying, he told me that the day had started in a complicated way. In fact, his first client spoke to him about his wife, who was very sick. He is a father of three and needed some emotional support.
This was a very sad story. I said I was sorry and realized that being late and all my problems were nothing compared to what that man was going through.
5. Gratitude, acceptance, and empathy were my last feeling in that place.
I went to the mechanic just to replace a car light bulb; I was very lucky because I could experience different emotions and fill my day with gratitude.
