5 Easy Ways Writers Can Earn $350+ Fast
2023 is the year of opportunity for the writers who are dedicated and passionate
2023 is here, New Year's Day has been and gone. Resolutions and commitments have been made. But will you stick to yours? Will 2023 be the year that you become financially free?
The good news is the opportunities are abundant.
The following opportunities are all high paying and best of all, they are looking for freelancer writers right now. All you need to do is read the brief, create an interesting premise for an article and pitch the editor.
Mother Jones
Pay: $1.75 per word for print editions & $0.75 per word for online editions
Niche: Culture and news (politics, climate, environment, racial and economic justice, human rights and corporate wrongdoing)
Submissions: Pitch editors directly via email, addresses can be found here on their staff page
Mother Jones is a US based investigative news magazine and they are seeking freelance pitches right now! They are looking for pieces ranging from 800 to 6000 words (depending on the column or section your article is for within the magazine).
These are their tips for writers submissions:
Keep your pitch clear and concise. Feature pitches should be no longer than two pages, and in the case of short form pitches, well shorter than that.
Make sure you’ve done enough pre-reporting to tell us what the story is, beyond the topic you’d like to write about. Do you have characters, a narrative arc, and a sense of what the main takeaway is? Also, make sure to check whether Mother Jones (or another publication) has written about the topic before. If so, how will your story be different?
Give us a sense of what to expect from your writing. A pitch is a great way to show off your style and voice.
Tell us about the idea’s timeliness, its originality, and its potential for impact.
Explain why you’re the writer to do the story. Do you have unique access or expertise on the topic? Do you have grant funding that will help with your reporting?
Let us know if your story lends itself to a gripping multimedia treatment. This might include suggesting video or audio components, or thinking outside the box when it comes to visual presentation.
If you think you have a strong pitch for them, then make sure you read all the information here. It describes all of their submission guidelines and knowing this information gives you a much better chance of getting the gig!
