5 Compelling Reasons To Eat Cakes

Why I Began Eating Cakes Again?

After reading a lot of articles on the internet about sugar, I stayed away from it for the past few years. I was resolute, I will not consume any products that have a lot of sugar in them. However, in my workplace, we started having cakes most of the day a week.

Looking at the people having cakes, I felt quite tempted. But I controlled myself and refrained from it. However, last week, I gave to the temptation.

I had a delicious cake from a colleague who was celebrating her birthday. Ever since I have been eating them a couple of days a week now.

I spent some time thinking about the exact reasons for which I began consuming cake. Because the inner temptation can be a cumulation of multiple factors. Here are they, one by one.

1# The Color Game

As it is often said

‘A thing of beauty is a joy forever!’

I believe, as human beings, people are generally attracted to the pretty stuff.

Pink, Crimson Yellow, Olive Green, and Rose Red are the colors of the cakes that I have eaten lately. These alluring colors make the cakes very attractive to me. I instantly get drawn towards these colorful cakes the moment I see them placed on the table.

Apart from the color, some of the cakes have beautiful floral patterns on them which makes them more visually appealing. So, my mind gets the notion that it must be delicious. And quickly, I grab a piece of it to validate my notion.

2# Delicious, Fruits, Nuts & Fibres

Ummm! Yummy!

That taste of softness when I chew the cake is a feeling that is worth cherishing. I didn’t experience this feeling upon eating any other food so far.

Also, I witness a plethora of tastes in my mouth as the cake gets rubbed on my taste buds during the process of chewing. The sweet taste of the cake is something that gives a sense of pleasure to me.

Most of the time, the cakes have several fruits in them. These fruits further consist of fibers which are very good for our health. For example, yesterday, I had a cake which had strawberries, peach, and pineapple in it. As soothing it was to my mouth, I am sure, it would have been equally beneficial to my health too.

The Nuts in the cakes make them even more nutritious. They enhance the nutritional value with essential vitamins and minerals.

Needless, to say that dried fruits and nuts like Cashews, Almonds, Brazilian Nuts, Cranberries, raisins, and pumpkins possess a lot of health benefits.

3# Baking - A Boon To Mental Health

After relishing the taste at my workplace, I remembered about it a weekend. I wanted to witness that taste again. So, I baked cupcakes at my place. I was lucky enough to make good cakes on my first attempt. But surprisingly I witnessed a sense of unusual happiness that lasted quite long.

Later, I found that research says that baking carries many benefits for all of us. One of them is that it reduces stress because a person stays in the present moment of baking.

It promotes mindfulness due to the involvement of several steps of baking. I remember I was focused all the time because one single mistake may cause problems. Due to this mindfulness, people remain aloof from the factors that cause stress. In this way, it leads to a reduction of stress.

Baking for others promotes the feeling of social well-being and happiness. Because you have spent some time making a cake for others, you develop an emotional experience with it. It comprises the feeling of care for others, the anticipation of the taste of the cake, and the satisfaction derived from perfecting all the steps each time you bake it.

People who have difficulty in expressing emotions can also bake a cake to show their appreciation. It serves as a medium of expression. Therefore, it fosters social connection which provides several advantages later.

4# Childhood Memories

When I was a kid, my mother seldom used to bake cakes at our home. So, whenever, I bite a cake, the childhood memories flash in my mind.

Its often said that we should live in the present. But, the past reminiscent that makes us happy deserves revival at brief periods in life. It has a couple of benefits.

A. Reminds me of all the people who helped me in the early days of my life. As a result, I feel gratitude towards them. B. It helps to kill boredom, especially during these strange times. So, it leads to better emotional control.

In one of the studies, it was found that savoring over past positive memories ushers a better emotional regulation. It suggests that a person facing trouble in the current day may recollect these memories. This will serve as an adaptive tool to counter the troubles.

5# A moment of Joy and Celebration

One of the chief purposes of life is to stay happy. It is often said, If you share grief, it lessens! If you share happiness, it increases!

Cakes give us an opportunity to celebrate the success of a fellow colleague, friend, or loved one. This celebration enhances the mood of all the cake eaters.

For example, during my birthdays as a kid, the festive atmosphere was often enhanced with the cakes, candles on top of them, and my name written on the cake. All this was very joyful.

These days cakes are used for the celebration of professional success (like in my workspace), personal accomplishments, hangouts, anniversaries, wedding parties, etc.

So, the cakes heighten the spirit of celebration!

These were some of the reasons for which I started eating cakes after a long time.
