Stop and Smell

Six Word Photo Story Challenge: Freestyle

Summoned to Stop and Smell Roses.

Just because it’s Valentine’s Day doesn’t mean we should sugarcoat everything. So, I’m going to say it: Divorce forced me to stop and smell the roses.

On this day, like many other days, I was tired, sad, emotionally exhausted, and overwhelmed with my single-mom life. But my baby girl was craving some time with me. It doesn’t matter what we do — she just wanted to hang out.

You got it, babe.

We walked barefoot around the backyard and gathered up random items for a riveting game of “Sink or Float?” When we came back to the patio table and combined everything we had found, she said,

Mom! We made a rose bath!

It’s the little things that matter. And when we’re so overwhelmed with life, some days, it takes all we’ve got to stop and smell those (not-so) proverbial roses. But once we get a whiff — we’ll keep coming back to that joyful memory for days.

I know I will!

Thank you for reading. You are loved. ❤
