4 Ways (When Applied) Ensure Productivity If You Have ADHD Like Me
Do what you love, is perhaps something ADHD individuals suffer from. As their distracting gaze runs from one place to another. It gets harder as you grow up. Focus issues, mental health decline — all of these can affect someone to being productive in their day, or night perhaps, if you’re a night owl like me.
Having ADHD and depression is the enemy of productivity.
My routine whenever I experience symptoms of depression is somewhat messed up. But I can still become productive during that time as I employ countermeasures to ensure my survival during that time. Otherwise, the low morale is suffering ad-infinitum, to be honest.
I usually employ these 4 countermeasures every day to ensure my productivity that not only boosts my mood but also guarantees that I am able to fulfill the goals I set every day — putting my hyperactivity to good use.
Without further ado, here are 4 ways when applied can help you become productive when doing any activity at will.
10 rounds around the house, 50 if you’re in your room or a 1-mile walk or jog to wake the senses and muscles.
My mornings or whenever I usually wake up from. I, first of all, take a few laps around the house. It helps to become agile also waking my muscles to some exercise. Snooping in the kitchen to check whether there is an apple or two. Grabbing it, as I walk a few circles around the house in the street.
Sometimes, there is this sensation that helps me to run — its sort of an ache. I’m sure many can relate to it when you’re walking and you get this feeling to just start running. Yeah, that one — I start running, sweating myself in the process.
I do that a few times during 2 laps of walking every morning taking small breaks and then I start running again. I don’t usually stop in between, those breaks are basically short step jogs, that I continue to exercise my muscles more.
I move my arms as well so that I keep my posture in good condition for the 1-mile run — you can improvise running two or more if you feel like it but not more than 4 at one interval.
I usually walk 4 miles in the morning, 2 in the afternoon, and then 4 in the evening. You can do just that around the house, with music or without one in my case. I self reflect on the past day and also focus on the present while walking at times. I write ideas that pop up — like the AHA moments in the phone using memos so that I can open them later.
Overall this exercise of muscles is helpful for any activity that follows. It impacts that activity tremendously, as I usually write my research when I do that. That helps me to finish day to day “work” tasks in time making room for my passion for writing that I thoroughly enjoy.
We get distracted easily, so what better way to remove that distraction by playing an awesome track to help with our focus.
I usually listen to a wide array of music, depending on work type, if it’s my research — I listen to Hauser’s Wicked Game. It calms my senses, to the point of pleasure. Every keystroke that I make is just much more pleasant than the last. It motivates my mind on track instead of drifting away into the abyss.
Instead, I use music to fill the void of solitude with a vibe that motivates me to get my work done in time. Though there’s no rush when you’re listening to such forms of music using the Cello.
Over the years, my taste in music has transformed. There’s a song for each one of my moods, whether it’s Turkish Pop, Kpop, you name it. I have one song on my playlist that fits the mood perfectly.
Music not only relaxes you but also will remove that distraction of standing every 10 minutes, or in some cases every minute. I am able to achieve far greater results using music. I suffer from stress headaches, most times — a gift of my depression. But the only thing that calms me down, is listening to his cello. I listen to other orchestra music as well.
It channels my emotions and keeps me on my toes. So I can write my research and complete my everyday work tasks. It adds value to what I do as I focus my all while listening to the calming embrace of the cello, instilling inspiration to get shit done. I encourage you to give it a go, Try it. I wrote this entire piece while listening to Hauser.
Eat fresh, and eat healthily. The Best way to do that is to buy a whole lot of green, and fruit.
I keep a snack, close to me all the time. When you’re working, certain distractions of the mind and the stomach can be minimized just by munching on a treat. It makes the whole “work” activity even sweeter or if you’re like me who likes sour things, even sourer.
I eat a different variety of fruits daily when you get a few different fruits — why not make a fruit salad? The idea is a really great one. I usually use bananas, apples, mangos, watermelon, or melons, oranges, blueberries or strawberries, and some whipped cream(sometimes). Mix it all together, and you get something to supplement those distractions with a tummy full of treats that are sure to boost your health as well as your mood.
Watermelons are proven to have a significant impact on boosting your mood. Plus the watery scrumptious treats are a bonus. They elevate your moods, and also your water intake. They are an overall, a healthy snack. Whether at work or home, these days I usually make fruit salad every day. Mostly during the afternoons, where I might feel distracted or tired from work.
Eating fresh helps me to stay focused during these tough hours, where procrastination is at its high. Thus while working every now, and then one chomp on these goodies helps to relinquish more minutes of productivity and health in the process.
Take care of your hygiene, and by that I mean get a bath twice a day. Throw in some cello, and you got your very own “soap” opera.
Personal hygiene is mandatory if you want to be productive. There isn’t anything a quick bath can’t fix. When it’s the matter of the heart not wanting to focus on the work or the mind’s unwillingness to make it — A quick shower that probably lasts at least 10–15 minutes can do wonders.
I usually meditate a few minutes when in the shower, the water adds as a calming catalyst towards maintaining my perspective of peace. Music is something that adds flavor to your showering life. You can sing too, I do it sometimes(I hum).
Taking care of your physical health is necessary. During these pandemic days, we are more on our butts. Its time to take ourselves to relax in the shower. The body needs a break as well. Cleaning yourself boosts your mood and your health. Plus you pass by the mirror a few times, try to compliment that beauty you see in the mirror once or twice.
Smile, Dry up and get back to work.
Repeat if necessary, two’s the charm but 4 is overkill — won’t encourage that unless you wanna send a sick leave for work tomorrow. A good shower helps to heal your body from the stress, it experiences. Go on, go take a relaxing bath.
The Takeaway
- Have a positive outlook, while listening to some music.
- Run or walk 10 miles every day. Divide it into 4 miles in the morning, 2 in the afternoon, and 4 in the evening.
