4 Ways to Stay Sane During Election Season
You too can be as still as the fly on Mike Prince’s head.

We’re less than a month away from the election, November 3rd. I’m definitely going through a touch of election fatigue. If you are tired of dealing with the chaotic nature of the craziest election on record, lets take a look at some ways to stay sane during this election. Because we all know more than ever, we need to find a way to not lose our minds.
Block your phone from Election Calls (as best as you can)
iOS has recently enabled the ability to silence unknown callers from your i-devices. To enable this ability, simply go to Settings > Phone Settings > Silence Unknown Callers. This can help you for a starting point. If you use your phone for sales calls, and need to keep this feature off, you can head to the FCC to add your name to the Do Not Call Registry.
There are also applications that can help with blocking calls. I’ve used apps including Nomorobo, Hiya (be careful with Hiya, this particular app has a history of malware), and others. Those particular apps can also help with blocking unwanted calls of all types, not just election calls.
You could also just drop your phone down a storm drain, however, phones are expensive these days. probably shouldn’t do that.

Take a break from Social Media.
This can be easy in some sense, and difficult in a different sense. A huge factor behind the insanity of the Election happens to be the Social Media Giants including Facebook/Instagram, and Twitter. We’ve heard news claims about Facebook making an effort to block election ads after Election day, but it doesn’t seem to help us now. You can take a break from Social Media to help your sanity from Election related chaos, and maybe 2020 chaos as a whole.
You could also deactivate your Social Media, completely, but, who’s going to remind you about your best friend, or boss’s birthday? Not me. I can barely remember when my birthday is, let alone anyone else.
Take a break from the news cycle.
This one is going to be tricky. Its almost impossible to completely avoid the news cycle, unless you feel like making a new home under a rock. Let CNN, Fox News, Breitbart, or MSNBC be the last possible thing in your self manufactured echo chamber. You’ll still find a way to live, while not hurting your spirit from the pain that is the Election news cycle.
I’ve decided to take less time reading political news, and more time reading good hearted news stories, and tech related news. Like iPhone 12 is coming, remember that? I’m still not impressed or excited, but its coming. Lets just take a moment to focus on the wilderness, or how Dairy Queen is doing. Take a break from the news, and focus on Dairy Queen, or the iPhone 12.
Finally, the answer to just about everything, Self Care.
You’re going to likely have that friend that will try and bait you with a seemingly innocent question about the Election, about your voting habits or decisions, whatever. Don’t let that friend get your spirit. Take time our for yourself. Do your nails, take a bath, stay away from your political friends, and state your boundaries. Taking time to state your boundaries during election season can be difficult, but very important.
Let the people who care about you the most know about what you are okay with hearing, and what you cant take hearing about anymore. If you are in a position where you are unable to set your boundaries, try to focus on ways you can have care in your own mind. Care about the information that enters your emotional space during this trying time.
Usually, when I have had enough of the news, of people talking about the news, and people bothering you about the election, I take some time to myself, and I eat cheerios. I love cheerios. Self care.
In Conclusion
This period is a miserable time during a miserable year. We all have to take extra measures to try and ensure our sanity while we muddle our way through it. The best part about this Election season is that its almost over. Thank heavens that its almost over. We’ve suffered enough. I’m rooting for you. Take care of yourself, and keep going.
