4 Ways To Get Out Of A Bad Mood

Yesterday I went to bed feeling happy. This morning I woke up feeling like shit. What happened? How do I get out of it?

Waking up this morning to a terrible miserable feeling in my gut, telling me that today is going to be one of those days…

Oh you know, the ones where you sulk away in your bubble of misery, end up hating everything and everyone including yourself, you feel like shaving off your damn hair because you just can’t handle that morning frizz anymore, you bark and snap at family members for no reason with motivation at 0% — oh you know, just one of those days…

You literally just woke up. So you’re trying to think back, asking yourself what happened and why you feel this way. A bad dream perhaps? No. Something you ate last night? No. Something you didn’t eat? Maybe. Who knows?!

Heck, if you google “how to prevent a bad mood” there will be a lot of nutrition tips on what you should eat, what vitamins are lacking in your diet, what you should and shouldn’t be doing, etc. It might be helpful I don’t know, the thing is everyone is going through a bad mood at one point, and usually we can’t explain it. What we can do, however, is figure out how to get out of it the next time we end up in this debacle.

Here are 4 ways on how to get out of a bad mood. It sure works for me, so why wouldn’t it work for you too?

Consume Coffee

I get up, despite all my instincts screaming at me, telling me to stay in bed. I don’t look in the mirror (this is important), I put on my bathrobe and head straight into the kitchen. I don’t think I just do. I make myself a cup of coffee, double cream, double sugar, just the way I like it, I go all in. Mmm, delicious!

After taking that first sip and feeling that tickling of coffee gushing down my throat, flooding into my bloodstream, pumping into my veins, I already feel so much better. Coffee is known to help regulate the mood because of the caffeine it possesses, triggering a certain part of your brain that makes you calmer and more focused. So sit down and drink that cup of coffee, with no distractions. One sip at a time.

No Distractions Meaning NO PHONE

I repeat do not, and I mean DO NOT scroll through your phone when in a delicate state like this, because the chance is you will feel even worse after.

Focus on yourself, say no to distractions, and shut off any influences from the outside world. Social media can be quite toxic when constantly comparing yourself to other people, so I repeat put away your phone because this is the last thing you want to be dealing with right now!

Talk To Yourself (And Be Nice)

No judgment here. You do what you gotta do and if that means talking to yourself to stay calm and to help take that edge off, by all means, go right ahead! I know I always do!

I think about moments when I felt really happy, and I try to play them out in my head over and over again. What was I so happy about? What did I feel? Repeatedly asking myself this, helps me remember my happy moments and I feel more at ease and in control, letting me get a better perspective of my current situation.

Get Your Butt Outside

Breathing in that fresh crisp morning air is pure therapy, I know I always feel so much better after. If that for you means opening up that kitchen window while enjoying your cup of coffee because your day is just too busy, that’ll do just fine.

If possible however try to get out and move a little, just do and don’t think. Makes you feel more relaxed and less stressed, which can be a huge game-changer on your mood. Clearing up your foggy brain, letting your lungs store up on fresh oxygen, making you feel lighter and more refreshed, suddenly everything doesn’t seem so bad after all.

These are a few things I do to help with my bad mood. Try them and I’m sure that they will be equally as helpful to you as they have been to me. Let’s not let a bad mood affect our entire day — I know I won’t.
