4 Ways to AI-Proof Your CyberSecurity Career in 2024
How to Embrace AI for Your Career Success!

In 2023 AI seemed to be here, there, and everywhere, dominating the news on all mediums.
Another item that shook the tech world this year was massive layoffs, with thousands of people losing their jobs
The double whammy of job disruption + tech layoffs has caused cybersecurity professionals to be understandably nervous going into 2024
The world is much different than it was 12 to 18 months ago
That is why I want to talk about a few concrete steps you can take to future-proof your Cybersecurity Career
Let’s go!
1 — Change the Way You Learn
The pace at which tech is evolving means you need to change the way you learn, also
The days of learning something by doing months-long certifications seem to be behind us
To get an idea of what I mean, take a look at just how much ChatGPT has evolved in the space of 12 months.
You need to stay on top of tech news and master the ability to quickly apply new concepts and tools that come out
Here are a few key steps to take
1 — Learn how to use GenAI to simplify concepts and make them easy to understand. GenAI can offer highly tailored guidance on any topic if you refine what you are asking. Use this to learn new concepts FAST.
2 — Find the right people to follow on LinkedIn or Twitter. Search for people on the cutting edge of AI or Cybersecurity and follow them on Twitter, LinkedIn or YouTube. Engage with them as much as you can to find out where the industry is shifting instead of passively waiting for change to happen to you.
3 — Join the right communities. Find people who are like-minded and share the same concerns and interests. Regularly talking to such people and sharing worries and milestones makes the whole job industry seem less intimidating!
2 — Learn The Limitations of AI
AI is fantastic at what it can do, but what can’t it do ???
AI introduces new types of risks, regulatory issues, and problems, all of which are fantastic career opportunities for the future.
For example, AI can be blind to its biases, needing people to identify them, or be subject to new types of cyberattacks we are not ready for.
Start learning about such concepts and become well-versed in them
Remember, AI is not perfect, but it can make massive goof-ups that can have real-life impacts on human lives and society as a whole
AI Risk Management and Cybersecurity is going to be HUGE going forward
3 — Learn Prompt engineering
GenAI as a tool is only as good as the prompts it gets
Learn Prompt Engineering, and by learning, I do not mean watching a YouTube video and forgetting about it 5 minutes later
Done properly, GenAI can boost your critical thinking and become a massive problem-solving machine
Learn how to leverage the reasoning power of Large Language Models to get the right answer with the right prompt
There are some excellent courses available that you can test-drive for free, such as this one
4 — Create Your Own Personal Brand
If 2023 has taught us anything, it is that depending on your 9–5 job only is a massive mistake.
Thousands of tech professionals who loved their jobs found out the hard way just how disposable they are in the eyes of their corporate masters.
Start building your brand TODAY: LinkedIn, Twitter, YouTube, Udemy, etc.
Use whichever platform you feel is more accessible.
Your 9 to 5 can go away anytime without you having any power over it
But your brand will stay with you wherever you go regardless of if you have a job or not
Over time, you can even monetize it and make some serious money!
