4 Things To Remember When Having A Bad Day

Learn To Deal With Them Because They Will Happen.

An excellent piece of advice that was given to me is that if you are struggling to write, then revisit something you have already written about.

So here I am. Sitting in front of my laptop, my mind swirling with ideas of poems and blogs, but my brain is not connected to my hands. The system is not going well. I write a sentence for each idea and then my brain stops. It feels like a train hitting the side of the mountain at an incredible speed.

My brain feels like a wheel which is spinning at an extortionary speed, but it feels like the ideas are strings attached to said wheel. The quicker the wheel spins, the more tangled they get, and the harder it is to focus on one.

I have a severe case of writer’s block.

I did all my normal methods of trying to snap out of it. I have been on two walks today, I watched a programme to inspire ideas, I did some house jobs and I even wandered aimlessly around my house. Nothing has helped me and I sit here, a failure of sorts.

On days like this, you need to remember the following;

1. Having a bad day is okay. We cannot be 100% all the time, no matter how much we try!

2. You can accept defeat and it does not mean you have failed. If you really cannot get any writing done, then it’s fine. I know I said I failed earlier, but I am naturally quite hard on myself. Don’t be like me. I am a super grumpy gal! You are doing great and struggling is natural.

3. A bad day does not mean you’re a poor writer.

4. It’s good to have an idea brainstorming day. If you have 100 ideas but cannot build on them, list them in a notebook. They’ll be useful later and technically, you have still done lots of work!

5. Don’t be hard on yourself and withhold your feelings. I am currently eating my feelings with treats, and that is okay. If you want to rant and cry, then go right ahead.

Just remember, tomorrow is a new day! You will get up, sit at your laptop and have a really productive day!
