4 steps to come out of a burnout
We often create new goals and projects… we feel excited, enthused and inspired and so, we pour into that well all we’ve got. After a while, if a project starts to take too long to bring any results we start to feel discouraged.
What to do? Here are fours steps to possibly help you:
1. Remember your “why”:
Your “why” is your motivation — the motive behind your action. Make sure to have a reminder of your “why” somewhere because it is much easier to forget your main reasons during the routine than you realize. Even easier, if your routine becomes stressful and tiring.
2. Go on walks
Walk is often recommended due to so many benefits; heart health, blood pressure, increased oxygenation of your body, which includes your brain. But walks can also help you be present and mindful. Mindfulness can do wonders to all but has become really difficult to reach in a world that is constantly plugged and on the go. So choose to go on walks without phones, without music, AND without thinking of your projects and possible solutions… train your mind to focus on nature and all the things you are grateful for.
3. Help yourself by helping others
You may feel that perhaps, if your motivation for helping others is just to help yourself… then you shouldn’t do it at all, however, in the process of serving another being, no matter your initial purpose, you will witness gratitude for life and consequently a change of heart. And if your heart is on the right place… your mind will certainly follow.
4. Commit to your minimum
This is the most practical step of all and the last. I recommend working on the others first. Assuming you’ve accomplished the other three… this one should flow easily.
When we are unmotivated, whatever the reason may be, we CANNOT be waiting on feelings. I know, at first… all the enthusiasm and excitement might’ve helped you go go go, but when these feelings are gone, you have to find ways to keep going… that is when you’ll have to rely on discipline and commitment. So commit. Commit to doing your minimum possible at the time and do it.
You cannot, should not, will not wait on any feelings. If one day your minimum is working on that project for 3 minutes only, then do 3 minutes only. Basic math: 3>0.
If you can do more, do more… just don’t quit.
