4 Reasons Why You Should Invest In Learning Programming Alone

A beginner’s path in the world of programming.

Programming, a not-so-friendly “environment” for newbies, or maybe Chinese for the ones who had nothing to do with it, has become very famous among people who are trying to reorient in their careers.

We all fantasized about a well-paid job and working as a programmer can give you this opportunity. But, there is a long term process to become one.

Many professionals say that you can learn a programming language from 6 months up to one year. Everything depends on the type of person you are, how dedicated you are to your purpose, and the most important if you enjoy it.

To be honest, this industry got my attention because of the high salaries, the possibility to work from anywhere, and that I do not have to interact with people so often.

Learning programming is hard, especially for the ones who did not have any deal with it at all. You have to develop analytical thinking, to understand why are you typing this command and what it will be used for.

Training your brain to think differently takes time and practice.

Here are some of the reasons why I choose to learn programming by myself.

# Unlimited online resources

The 21st century is one for the privileged. The online world is an unlimited resource of information for almost everything you want to learn. Programming has a wide range of information online, synthesized for everyone’s understanding.

The internet has everything you can wish for. From books to free online courses, all of them promise you can learn on your own whatever you want.

A beginner thought — This is how my journey started with a thought of what if. So what if I start to learn how to program? Sure, my area of expertise is far from what programming means, but we all know that the salaries are high. This is the perfect job for someone who does not want particularly to interact with people.

In my online journey, I have found a useful library to start reading. If you are going to start learning you need to read a few pages about it.

# Free online courses

There are quite a lot of programming classes on the market, some of them costing thousands of euros and which lasts from 6 months to a year. They all bet that after you finish the course you can get hired. I know that it is very important to put a price on your education, but can I learn alone? Do I need somebody to be by my side to tell if I am wrong or right?

There is nothing wrong with choosing a free course. You know better what is the type of education you need.

YouTube is my first choice for learning programming. There are plenty of videos that teach you different languages like Python, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, and the differences between these languages. After a few views, you can decide what would you like to do and which program should choose.

You can find tons of videos from 30-minute clips to 6-hour clips, where things are explained at a large scale to understand the principles of programming as a beginner.

The advantage of this type of learning is that you can learn at your own pace, without being disturbed by anyone or being pressed for time.

I admire those who are willing to teach someone without asking for something in exchange. Sure, they get views on YouTube, but you get the chance to use their knowledge.

# High paid salaries

Well, this is a pretty good reason to start learning. Each time the financial resource represents a motivation. Programming can give you financial security and longevity.

This was the main reason I choose this industry. Programming means technology and the future is based on that. Every device that we use is programmed to help us to do a task, and this industry needs professionals to start developing this.

When you ask somebody what is doing for a living and their answer is “ I am a programmer” in your brain is a spark. Your signals are awakened, and you think “Wow, she/he must do very well”. We want others to think about us when we say we are programmers, right?

In my country, the entry-level salary is around 1.5–2k euro/month, unlike other countries in Europe were start from 3k euro/month, even higher.

# Work from almost anywhere

You can work from every corner of this planet, as long as you have a good internet connection and a laptop.

Even if you are working as a freelancer or a 9 to 5, this job can be done successfully remotely. You do not need a proper desk at an office, you can do it from the comfort of your own home or while traveling the world.

This Covid crisis has taught us that we humans have to accommodate to a different environment with minimum social interaction. This is how the future will look. Remote jobs have begun to grow in recent years because people figured out that it is more comfortable to work from anywhere than the office.

Keep in mind, everything it’s possible if you wish to make it happen. Do not start something new if you are not feeling it. It is better to find out what suits you better than waste your time on boring and not so important things.

This is the key to start something, to wish, and to be perseverant in your work.

Trust me, I tried a lot of things until I got here. Not all of them have reached my heart and brain, but I believe that in life you have to try a lot before you succeed.

Well, get back to work and start learning.
