4 Non-Negotiable Writing Rules I Follow to Strengthen My Brand

It’s hard, but worth it.

Nothing kills dreams faster than a lazy person.

The lazy person has all the knowledge in the world at his disposal but lacks discipline. He lacks consistency. He lacks purpose.

That’s a lot of *lacks*, I know.

What I also know is all those gaps lead to an uneventful life.

A writer who is truly committed to his craft should take care of his future self and establish rules in place to dictate his life.

So without further ado, here are the rules I established to lead me to my dream outcome. Financial freedom through the power of my words.

If this sounds like something you’d like, keep reading…

Writing A Draft In The Morning

I usually wake up in the morning because I have school at 7:30 AM.

So right at 5:30–6:00, I get up, I go to my desk open the laptop and start working.

Coffee plays a big part in my productivity system. It helps me not only feel energized but inspired as well. And it really plays into the idea of the struggling writer who works early in the morning.

I pick an idea from the ones I have stored up from the night before. More on that later.

And then…I write the messiest article, most ugly looking, and full of grammatical errors article I’ve seen. Honestly…I surprise myself each day with what my brain comes up with.

Later, down the line, in the afternoon I eventually get to edit and publish it. So it’s all good, right?

I break up my article and post short-form content

This is more of a recent discovery for me. I find that the best way to grow your personal brand and one-person business is to also publish on platforms like X and LinkedIn.

They offer a such vast audience and new opportunities to learn from other creators. Not to mention the reach and financial gains.

Basically, I also write short-form. It has its benefits, believe me. I discuss more about it in this article: How to Use Short-Form Content to Skyrocket Your Brand

I’d check it out if I were you.

Money Inducing Activities

Here comes the part where my bark is bigger than my bite.

Usually, this time period represents the afternoon after school. When I am tired and need a break.

It is the time when I get to edit my writing and focus on strategizing ways of making money online.

It’s also when I usually learn more about copywriting. Becoming a freelancer and helping clients.

I also do market research on what my ideal audience wants to hear. What they need to hear. The problems they face and how I could help them.

Nights are for idea generation

I have 3 main ways I do it:

  • Getting ideas from X
  • Learning from youtube
  • Reading Articles on Medium

I post stuff on X, as well as engage with other creators on there as well as Medium.

I learned from YouTube about copywriting, writing, and others.

I read articles on Medium to see what the best headlines and hook ideas are.

Conclusion (TL;DR)

Rule #1: Always get the draft done in the morning

Rule #2: Always post short-form extracted from the main article to boost growth

Rule #3: Always seek out new opportunities to grow your brand by either having a side hustle, learning how to perform your skills, or doing market research.

Rule #4 The learning never stops. The momentum you build at night will propel you forward the next morning.
