There’s hope for shitty writing!

Okay, I’ve been stalking a couple of accounts on Medium who claim to make over $100 a month on Medium. Meaning, they are in the top 6% of writers on Medium!

I’m happy for them, I really am. But I can’t get over how bad their writing is. Weak language. Poor grammar. Vague content. It’s what you would call shitty writing. I’m actually surprised at the number of publications who are OK with this level of writing.

Yet, they are making over $100 a month, and I believe them. Here are four tricks they have been using:

1. Write about Medium

Most of their stories are about making it on Medium: How to get 2000 followers in two months, how to make your first $100, how to write every day on Medium, and so on. These are all topics most writers would find interesting. They all should lead to more money on Medium.

But should you click on the stories and the content is rubbish, it’s vague. One story recommends writing quality content to gain more followers. Seriously?! Have you read your own work?

Yet, you find hundreds of claps on these articles. I know why. Read the next two points.

2. Follow more writers

So these writers follow everyone in sight. They might have 3000 followers, but they are following 8000 writers in return. So, it doesn’t matter who you follow. Just keep following everyone. The more you follow, the higher the chances of someone following you back.

3. Comment on fellow authors

Look at their responses, and it goes something like this “Fantastic read,” “Thanks for the sharing,” “Brilliant read,” and so on. The responses are exactly the same, and they respond to about 100 stories a day. Do you think they actually took the time to read every single story? Of course NOT! This is their way of getting noticed and followed back.

4. Write a lot

I have to give it to them; they write a lot — about one story a day. They put in the work. They show up daily.

Forget about quality. They might think it’s quality writing, but it’s not. It’s writing on money-making topics, so it gets noticed.

Conclusion

There you have them, four hacks that can get you to earn over $100 a month, even if you’re a shitty writer.

I haven’t been able to follow these tips.

I can’t mindlessly follow everyone in sight. I cannot leave“fake” responses just to get noticed. I can’t just write any crap, just to say I wrote something.

To the writers following this strategy, I have nothing against you. I respect the effort you’re putting into this. You actually motivated me. You made me realize; it’s not about how good your writing is; it’s about getting people to clap for you.

I’m going for the $100 a month club, but I won’t follow your style. I want to know that if I follow a fellow writer, I am following them because I want to read their work.
