To be a great writer, you have to first defeat your perfectionism. -Sahil Patel

Perfectionists are the people who are detail-orientated, reliable, and efficient. Being a perfectionist might help you in different careers. However, when it comes to perfectionism in writing it might kill your creativity.

To defeat your perfectionism, you first have to identify it. Before you defeat your perfectionism, you have to understand: are you suffering from perfectionism or not with your writing?

Identify the perfectionism in writing

  • Do you feel a lack of satisfaction in your writing?
  • Have you ever felt afraid to show your writing to others?
  • Do you feel demotivated after reading your work?

If your answer is yes to all the above questions, I have to say that you should ignore your perfectionism to become a great writer.

It’s important to have faith in your work and abilities. Not just you, many writers do not write an amazing first draft.

Writing is not a one day job, It is a lifetime process.

You will not go to write your very first post wonderfully. You have to practice writing, to improve it. Don’t worry, if you are the first who has posted a post that is filled with errors and typos.

If you have a question in your mind, how can you defeat your perfectionism and be able to put all your fears aside? Here are some of the ways to ignore it.

You have to write some shit, before creating a masterpiece.

4 ways To defeat perfectionism with writing

1. Put your perfectionism aside, and just write

Don’t be too perfect. Perfectionism is poison for your writing in the beginning. Don’t be scared of making mistakes and typos, go with the flow.

Don’t take the writing too seriously. Write in a light mood and relax. No matter how your draft may sound, just focus on writing. Finish your first draft and don’t criticize yourself once you finish it.

Pat yourself and give credits to complete your first draft. Tell yourself that if you can write, you can write well.

2. Publish your work

Once, you have finished your draft now it is time to polish it. Edit out all the typos and errors, make it feel engaging. And lastly, publish it. No matter how it sounds. Just publish it. No matter, if your writing isn’t on the perfect level. Publish it.

Don’t decide before listening to others’ feedback. Give your readers a chance to decide if your writing is good or bad. You will never be able to judge your story as other people will be able to do. Let your readers and followers decide how’s the story?

3. Be more brave than perfect

You don’t need to be perfect in your writing. I believe as a writer, you should be brave to put your opinions and perspectives in front of your audience.

Everyone has different perspectives. Give your opinion a voice. Once your readers understand your voice, opinions, and the tone of your voice towards such topics and aspects of it, you will get better exposure, and it will help you become a better writer.

In life, you have to trust the process. In writing, you have to trust on your inner writer.

4. Keep on writing

No matter if you are perfect or not, if you are feeling to write or not, if you are not encouraged, just sit down and start putting words on the paper. You have to take the first step to walk 1000 steps.

This is the only way to ignore your inner perfectionist. Write, write and just write. Make writing your every-day habit, to make yourself honest with your writing. Believe me, you will improve every day by writing every day. Write with full of energy than fears. Writing is a fun activity. Don’t make it too serious. Last but not the least, it’s all about moving forward.

“ You can only take your writing to the next level by writing.

Capture ideas, turn them into a masterpiece, and publish. That’s the only way to defeat perfectionism. Don’t let your perfectionism harm your writing.

The one tip I want to share with you all is to embrace your work. No matter if it’s a wonderful or the worst piece ever, just embrace it because you know how much effort you have put on to create it. All good things start with efforts. Embrace your efforts and hard work.

Don’t wait for the perfect moment to write. Right now is the perfect moment to write. We are creative people, we don’t wait for creativity to come and make a masterpiece for us. We live with creativity to create something new every day.

Write freely and edit endlessly. You will surely defeat your perfectionism, my fellow writers.
