4 Editing Tips You Never Knew Existed

Until now, they have been beneficial too!

Editing your articles can be fun. However, I have some tips that I don’t think many people are aware of, so I thought I would share them with you today.

  1. Dragging

When you add a picture or video to your article, if you decide you would like it moved to another section, then simply with your left mouse button, click on the image, then drag it to a new location and release the mouse button.

Previously without knowing this existed, I would delete it and re-upload the photo or video I wanted to show in my article.

2. The letter “T” and the letter “K.”

If you write in capitals those two letters, it will create a gold caption of those letters.

I use this to go back to a section if I think it will need to be re-edited, or maybe I have not finished it off. However, having a writing block, so I will need to come back to it later.

Here is an example below.

Once you have the gold “T” and “K” (with no spaces in between them) next to your work, you will be unable to publish your article until you delete them. I find this to be a great tool. Nobody wants to publish an article then forget to finish. That would be embarrassing!

You can only use one “T” and “K” per paragraph, which I think is perfectly fine. Why don’t you try it when you next write.

3. Word count

People often wonder how many words they have written, which drove me mad as a new writer. So I stupidly used to copy and paste my work into Microsoft word to find out.

I did not know that you could find out when writing your article in Medium, well this is how you find out.

If you highlight the words you would like to count, look in the top left-hand corner of your page. It will show your word count next to the Medium symbol, like in the picture below.

4. Emoji’s

You can add an emoji to your article, something that I have only just learned myself. I am not a massive fan of them, but I know other people are, so I thought it would be worth mentioning.

To get an emoji, type a colon “:” then, with no spaces, type which one you would like, you may get more than one come up, left-click on the emoji you would like to use. Then, have a look at the sample below.
