What happens when you are trying to decide if you should stay or go from a situation that isn’t working, like a job, a relationship or a place to live? I think it’s quite complicated.

You find yourself wondering if you should go on a little longer to solve the problem. You think that you like where you are, after all. The next day you are sick of waiting. You don’t know what to do, you don’t trust your feelings any more.

You ask all of your friends, you wait for some sign coming from the universe or from an event that changes everything, but nothing happens. You are stuck. What can you do?

Here are four signs that show you have outgrown something, and it’s time to move on, to change. They might help you in making a decision.

1.You keep thinking — and talking about your situation.

If you can’t stop thinking about your problem, it might be time to ask yourself why you keep trying to make it work. A lack of excitement about achieving what you want might mean that you are used to striving and never accomplishing anything. Fear of the unknown or of upsetting other people might even help you stay in your comfort zone.

2.You can’t see a positive outcome and you feel bad about yourself.

If it seems an impossible dream to be successful or to feel satisfied with your life, you need to think about the realization of your goal in detail, and redefine your commitment to the plan. Be careful: not being able to achieve what you want might result in self-doubt about your abilities, and make you feel even worse.

3.Your intuition is trying to tell you something, but you ignore it.

When you wake up in the morning - or at night, is your first thought to give up? There isn’t always a clear reason to leave a project, or a friendship. If you find yourself not liking yourself in the situation, it could be time to look for growth elsewhere.

4. You find yourself shrinking to fit in, or you don’t feel like you are truly yourself.

You feel that you need something different from what you have. You can love your friends, but also need to find people who align closely to the kind of person you want to be, and the kind of experiences you want.

Making the decision to leave a part of your life behind might not be easy, but it will open the door to other joyful life experiences. Leaving a job or a city can take time to adjust and make you scared since you don’t know what to expect.

Maybe at the start, your fear makes you stay. But slowly, your faith grows, and the fear shrinks. Until one day you wake up and the faith is bigger than the fear. You feel ready to step into the unknown because you believe it can happen. All doubts are gone.

If a voice within you is saying “leave!”, if you are being called somewhere else, if you feel like your heart yearns for more, listen to it.

Follow your heart.
