4 Clothing Fashion Trends Which Look Silly To Me

I’ll admit, I’m not the most current and up to date guy when it comes to fashion, but there are some fashions that just shouldn’t be in public!

Yes, I know, I’m not the most hip person in the world. Yes, I know, I don’t look at all the fashion magazines to see the latest styles. Yes, I know, fashions differ from person to person around the world.

But, I can still have an opinion, right? I can still say whether or not something looks good or looks silly to me, right? So can you.

I’m sure when people finish reading this story, some will agree, some will not. Either way, I’m good with it. If you don’t agree, that’s fine. Just remember, we can all still get along, we just look at things differently.

With that being said, let me get started with the 4 Fashion Trends that look Silly to me!

Flat billed caps.

I’m pretty sure this is because I grew up in a time where people didn’t wear flat billed caps, but to me, that just looks weird. I see a lot of the young kids wearing this style, which is fine, but when a grown man wears it, I just shake my head and go “huh?”

Yes, I know a lot of us guys don’t want to believe we are getting older each year, but sometimes the teenage fashioned stuff just isn’t for us anymore. After all, I don’t ever want to be a teenager again!

Hey You! Get Off My Lawn!

I don’t know where this flat bill trend came from, but I think the person who started this trend a LONG time ago, and some of you will chuckle at this reference, was Minnie Pearl!

No only was she wearing flat billed hats when it wasn’t in style, but she also kept the price tag on the hat! Talk about a woman ahead of her time! You go Minnie!

Underwear Showing

Again, maybe it’s my age, but what’s with guys showing off their underwear outside of their pants? What’s so special about your underwear that makes you want to show it off to everyone around you by having it sticking out of the top of your pants?

Here’s a funny story about this subject. I used to substitute teach as various high schools, and one day I asked a class full of Senior girls what they thought of guys their age who have their underwear showing over their pants.

Not one said they find it attractive. They all, without question, told me that it looks sloppy and childish. A couple of the girls even said they wouldn’t go out with a guy who dressed like that!

So guys, if you’re younger and reading this, believe me when I tell you having your underwear hanging out of your pants is NOT a way to attract girls. If that’s not what you’re doing, then more power to you. All I know is when I was a young man, the last thing I wanted to do was dress in a way which would cause any girl to be uninterested. But hey, times have changed!

Ripped Up Jeans

I remember watching an awards show and the country music singer Allen Jackson presented an award and he wore jeans with a horizontal rip at the knee of one of the legs. He also wore a nice shirt and sports coat. I thought that was the coolest look, and he pulled it off great!

So yes, I copied that looked for a while. When my mother saw me the first time, she about blew a gasket! “I didn’t raise you to wear clothes like that!” It’s funny to hear her tell that story.

Anyway, these last couple of years, people have taken the ONE legged little knee rip and fed it steriods!

Holy Cow! I see younger people who wear jeans with the entire legs of the front of the jeans held together by 4 strands of cloth! I’ve asked a few of the people how much they had paid for those jeans and they were well over $100! What the heck has gotten into people?

What’s even more amazing is I went out with a lady a couple of years ago who wore something like that. Mind you, we were both over 45 years old! It’s not so much an age thing for me, it’s more of a respect for yourself thing in my eyes. If you want to act and dress like a teenager, go for it. But if you’re with adults, have some pride in yourself!

Yes, I know, I’ll get some feedback for that comment, but this is my story and these are my opinions!

While we’re on the topic of jeans, I can’t let this one off the hook…..

Skinny Jeans.

This is the one I’m sure I’ll get blasted on.

First of all, no guy should EVER wear skinny jeans. I have yet to see a guy, no matter what age and which profession, who doesn’t look like a moron wearing skinny jeans. It just doesn’t look right. So guys, don’t wear them….EVER!

Girls, not to worry, I’m not leaving you out of this.

I hate to tell you, but a lot of guys don’t find skinny jeans attractive. There’s not too many women who can pull off the skinny jean look and have others find them attractive. It’s a small percentage, at least in my book.

I was discussing the skinny jean look to a female friend of mine and she agreed with me, girls just don’t look attractive in them.

She actually said, and I’ll warn you that after reading this you’ll never look at a girl wearing skinny jeans the same way again.

You Are Warned!

She said, skinny jeans makes a girl’s figure look like a light bulb! After you’re done chuckling, remember….I warned you!

She and I also agreed, we both find the more flared out bottom of the pants most attractive. Not quite bell-bottoms, but in that area.

So, I said my peace, if you don’t agree, that’s fine. Leave me a comment letting me know I’m too old or don’t know what I’m talking about, I can take it!

Either way, that’s my story and I’m sticking to it!
