Every month, more and more new writers are joining Medium and its partner program. Publications have more work to do than ever before, and the competition for existing writers is rising due to so many new, dedicated, talented, and hardworking writers.

And it’s totally understandable why so many people are giving Medium a try. While some are still arguing whether writing on Medium is worth it or not, some others are working their ass off and reaping all the rewards in forms of high monthly incomes, tons of traffic for their websites and businesses, loads of new email subscribers, and so much more.

And while most people know about Mediums Partner Program and the possibility of getting paid for your work here, most newbies miss out on all the other opportunities Medium bears.

However, the Partner Program is just the tip of the iceberg, and there are so many more reasons why investing in writing on Medium is worth it.

Here are a few of them:

Generating leads for your business/website

Medium bears an incredible potential for growing your email list and generating leads for your business.

An email list is the biggest asset of any digital business. No matter if you’re a blogger, coach, entrepreneur, yoga teacher, or whatsoever: Having an email list will allow you to increase your income, build deep relationships with your audience and be safe, even if one of these platforms suddenly disappears.

As millions of people are trying to catch our attention and make us subscribe to their lists, growing your own list is not easy. On platforms such as Instagram or TikTok, it’s particularly tricky as you don’t have the opportunity to share too many links with your audience.

On Medium, however, growing your list is incredibly simple and effective.

Through a simple call-to-action at the end of your post and in your author bio, you can let your readers know about a free offer or the value you provide through your newsletter and transform your readers into subscribers.

And if your pieces on Medium get lots of views and reads, your chances of growing your list quickly are pretty damn high.

Currently, my email list is growing by 30 new subscribers per day solely through Medium, which, for me, is a fantastic result.

Imagine one of your posts going viral and reaching hundreds of thousands of people: Through a simple call-to-action, you can catch the attention of all these people and potentially win them as clients for your business.

Being featured in major publications

Editors of popular publications such as Forbes, CNBC, or Business Insider regularly browse through Medium looking for new writers who could contribute to their platforms.

In his book about succeeding on Medium, Tim Denning describes how some of these platforms reached out to him and offered to share his work with their audience. They all found him through Medium, liked his work, and wanted to support his work without him having to do much.

If your #1 goal is making money through your writing and if you don’t care about anything else, this might not be particularly interesting to you.

But if you want to build your personal brand, grow your audience across various networks, and strengthen your expert status, getting featured through publications outside of Medium can be a major gamechanger for your business and reputation.

Now, of course, getting contacted by publishers and editors is not something that happens frequently, and it certainly doesn’t happen to everyone. But having an established presence on Medium also makes it a whole lot easier to reach out to publications and offer a collaboration.

Editors of prominent websites will obviously pay more attention to writers who already have an established audience on a platform such as Medium, as this indicates that your writing is good.

So, if your #1 goal is building your personal brand and an expert status in your niche, Medium can make your life a whole lot easier by facilitating the process of getting published through major websites and brands.

Boosting your career

Lots of people are writing on Medium without any plans of leaving their 9-to-5 jobs. They just use the opportunity to do what they love and get paid for it on top of their regular paychecks.

While most people chose to complain about not having enough time, some of Medium’s most popular writers actually built their presence while working 9-to-5. And many of them are still working their day jobs, because…well, why not?

If you love your job but additionally want to write and express yourself, Medium is a fantastic opportunity. You don’t have to take care of all the technical stuff, such as setting up a website, covering SEO, etc.. Instead, you can simply focus on writing great shit and let your creativity flow.

And if you give your best and learn along the way, you might a) get paid for your words, b) build an audience that is genuinely interested in your message, and c) become a leading expert in your niche.

And if the topics you write about are connected to your day job, you might even boost your career through Medium instead of giving it up.

Especially in countries like India, with high competition on the job market, you might be able to stand out from the crowd through your writing.

Let’s say you’re applying for a job as the social media manager of a company. The odds are big that several others are applying as well, and all of your competitors might have studied at similar schools, worked for similar brands and projects in the past, but the possibility of one of them being a significant writer on a platform such as Medium is quite small.

Now, if you’ve been blogging about social media trends and related topics for several months or even years and mention your work in your CV or during the job interview, you have a great chance of sticking out from the mass and getting the recruiters attention.

Making a (full-time) income through your writing

Last but not least, even if all the points above don’t sound particularly attractive to you, making money through your writing might be appealing.

Through Medium, it’s easier than ever before to get paid for your writing. And those who take it seriously make a bunch of money through their words here.

I joined Medium back in 2018 but hardly made any money for a long time because I didn’t understand what to do. I blindly published posts without knowing the rules and strategies that work.

However, in December 2019, I decided to take Medium seriously and write every day. What happened in the next four months is incredible: Thousands of people are reading my posts every day, and I’m making around $5,000 per month solely through my writing.

Some of the best-paid writers here are making more than $20,000 by merely doing what they love: writing.

Isn’t that crazy?!

Without Medium, all these people would have to fight to even get eyeballs on their pieces. Yet, now they can make use of a vast audience and make a lot of money by sharing their message.

And the good news for you is that it’s also still possible for you.

If you have an important message to share, something you’re passionate about, and if you are willing to get vulnerable and write for an audience, you might experience a crazy growth rate as I did and get paid for your passion quite soon.
