4 AI Art Apps That Will Make You Feel Like an Artist
Producing gorgeous images has never been easier. Here are my top AI art apps and how to use them.
Artificial intelligence is changing the creative world. All thanks to its amazing algorithms that produce images that are sometimes hard to distinguish from human-made art.
AI can help you bring to life any concept you can imagine, which can be used in different ways. To name a few:
- Generate appealing graphics for your business
- Create captivating visuals for your work
- Produce images for your online website
But, first, you need to know what apps make this possible. Here are my top AI art apps and how to use them.
1. Midjourney: Create AI art with simple prompts
In my opinion, Midjourney is the best app for creating AI art.
Midjourney uses neural networks to produce pictures based on text descriptions. It’s capable of generating images that are rich in detail, and clarity and have exquisite quality.
Midjourney offers an extensive range of customization options, allowing you to adjust the picture’s level of detail, aspect ratio, and various other parameters to your liking.
- Free version: With the free version you can generate up to 25 images
- Paid version: Midjourney is one of the most budget-friendly options available. For $10, you can generate up to 200 images, while the $30 subscription provides unlimited access to the app’s features.
How to use it
Midjourney is exclusively available on Discord. In order to use the app, you have to go to Midjourney’s website, click on “Join the Beta” and accept the Discord invitation.
The next step is to go to any of the newbies channels on Discord.
Then, on the chat, use the “/imagine” command and describe what you would like to get. Midjourney will then generate an image based on your text description.
Let’s create an image of a dog in a space suit drinking coffee. Here’s the prompt I’ll use.
/imagine dog, space, coffee
After you sent the prompt, Midjourney will generate four pictures. However, these are not the final results yet! Below the images, you’ll see the buttons labeled U1, U2, U3, U4, and V1, V2, V3, V4.
The first set of buttons (“U”) is for upscaling the chosen image, allowing you to improve its resolution and add more details, while the second set of buttons (“V”) allows you to create new variations of the selected picture (useful if you like the result but want to change something)
Bonus: Create Your Own Avatar with Midjouney
If you’re interested in creating an avatar with Midjourney, start by selecting a photo where your face is clearly visible.
You’ll need to upload this photo to a hosting platform where you generate the link for the image. Note that uploading the picture directly to Discord will not work.
A good hosting platform is Postimages, as it doesn’t degrade the image quality. Once you’ve uploaded your photo and copied the direct link, simply specify the style you want to see it in when using Midjourney.
The resulting image obtained from Midjourney was remarkably faithful to my actual appearance, exhibiting a level of detail and quality that can be considered outstanding.
It’s also advisable to specify the gender of the individual in the photo during the request. Midjourney can sometimes generate an avatar of the opposite gender. Specify the gender of the person in the request by adding terms like “female,” “girl,” or “woman”.
2. Lensa: Create avatars from your photos
Lensa is a powerful photo editing app that has become increasingly popular among smartphone users. The app offers a range of advanced features that allow users to enhance their photos with precision and ease.
But Lensa is not just a regular photo editing app, it has a cool feature that turns your photos into a personalized and unique avatar in a few minutes.
How to use it
The process of creating an avatar with Lensa is super easy. All you have to do is upload some photos of yourself, and Lensa’s AI will automatically detect your facial features and create a custom avatar that looks just like you.
I was excited to see what the app could do, so I uploaded 10 selfies of myself and bought the 100-picture pack. I was looking forward to getting my 100 avatars!
However, I found that only a handful of them actually looked like me. I chose 4 avatars to showcase the app’s capabilities.
While a few of the avatars that Lensa created for me were quite accurate, the majority of them were not very realistic and didn’t look much like me at all.
It’s important to keep in mind that while the app can produce some great results, it’s not always 100% accurate and may require some tweaking to get the desired outcome. Nonetheless, it was still a fun and interesting experience to see what the app could do with my photos.
On the other hand, Lensa can do more than generate AI avatars. Lensa also has AI-powered editing tools that can detect faces, skin tones, and other elements in the photo, and apply subtle adjustments that result in a polished and professional-looking image.
The app can smooth out skin imperfections, whiten teeth, and brighten eyes to create a portrait that looks both natural and flattering.
3. Dream Studio
In my opinion, Dream Studio is a good alternative to Midjourney because:
- It generates images fast
- It’s easier to use than Midjourney
- It offers 200 images to generate for free, compared to only 25 in the free version of Midjourney.
Dream Studio has a light version that allows users to generate images based on text input. While the resulting images may not be as high-quality as those produced by Midjourney, it still does a good job.
The cost of generating an image with Dream Studio depends on the resolution. Accessing images that have already been made also costs credits, so it’s important to use resources wisely and be aware of how many credits you’re using.
How to use it
Go to this website to access Dream studio.
Once you’ve logged in, just type in your prompt at the bottom of the website and hit the “Dream” button.
Four Images will be generated in a couple of seconds.
If you want to regenerate the images, click “Dream” and you’ll get new alternatives.
Like with Midjourney, to enhance the image, just select one of the four generated images and then add text to specify the changes you want to make.
The pics become very precise when you correctly define what you aim for. I chose one of my favorite pictures and added “Airplane and sun”.
I think it turned out very well, and Dream Studio created it in a few seconds. To download the image, simply hover your mouse over it and click the “Download Image” button.
That’s pretty much it! In my experience, Dream Studio may not be as accurate as Midjourney, but it’s still good.
4. Wonder Al
Wonder AI is another alternative to Midjourney and Dream Studio, and it’s available as a mobile app.
Wonder AI is easy to use and has lots of tools like brushes, pens, and shapes to help you create your own unique designs. You can also choose from ready-made templates and designs that you can customize to make it your own.
You can create your own images like in Midjourney and also your own avatar. One of the differences with Midjourney is that Wonder Al can immediately animate your picture.
While the mobile app is free, you need to watch ads to generate an image. To generate high-quality images and unlock all avatar options you can get a paid subscription.

How to use it
First, you download the app to your phone.
When you first start using the Wonder AI app, you will be prompted to select from various categories to specify your preferences. It’s really helpful to choose a category at the beginning when using the Wonder AI app.
I’ll select the “Airplane in Space” category and choose any style available. In the end, you’ll have to watch an ad, if you don’t want to pay for a subscription plan.

In theory, it fulfilled my request, but the image wasn’t as perfect and colorful as those from Midjourney. This app has also more glitches than Midjourney. Most likely you will have several attempts before you get the desired image.
AI art apps have made it easy for anyone to create beautiful digital art. Now anyone can generate AI art based on keywords and preferred styles, and enhance existing images with advanced AI tech. As technology evolves, we can expect even more innovative and creative AI art apps in the future.
Out of all the applications, Midjourney is my favorite because of its excellent picture quality.
