Reading, Writing, and Consistency

3X Top Writer in Music, Reading, and Movies

Thank you Medium, for Elevating the Best Work

I received a nice notification today from our friends at Medium. Author’s image

I wrote an article about when I received my first top writer’s badge and my second. It only seems right to write about the third top writer’s badge, but I hope to make this valuable for those who read this article.

When I first started writing on Medium, I was like a little sheep — lost, lonely and, all I knew was I belonged somewhere in this pasture.

I was already very comfortable with writing, but I did not know what the platform was all about. I was researching books to determine what my next read would be. That’s how I happened upon this website.

I felt right at home and dug right in. I made a lot of mistakes so maybe I can help you avoid them.

  1. The Writing Guidelines are the principal procedures new and not so new writers should incorporate into all their articles. Do not deviate. Follow them closely and you will have success.
  2. If you go to the main Medium landing page, look at the bottom right of the page and click on ‘help.’ It takes you to a page with a search box across the top of the screen. You can’t miss it. Type in ‘writing guidelines.’ I’ve taken the liberty to provide what you will find in the above link but do it yourself.
  3. Pay particular attention to your images and to your photo captions. Lately, I’ve read a lot of chatter about people being sued for using images they pulled from the Internet. That’s why I mostly use my own personal images or pictures without faces.
  4. Your photo captions should be linkable to where you got them from. This is to illustrate you used a Copywrite-free source, such as Pexels, Pixabay, Unsplash, or any of the other Copywrite-free sources.
  5. Edit your finished product before you submit it. Don’t rely on others to edit your material to ensure it is error-free. There’s a lot of material that gets published.
  6. Before you publish, be sure to click on ‘meter my story so it is eligible to earn money’ checkbox. If you have joined the Medium Partner Program, this will be invaluable.
  7. Have fun. Writing isn’t a job, it’s creativity. You are sharing yourself with others. Don’t make it a task. Enjoy the pleasures of writing. Make new friends, have fun and continue to create.

That’s about it, everyone. This really isn’t about me and my third Top Writer’s badge. This is about how you can join me and the others who have experienced the exhilaration of being awarded that badge.

Now, keep writing.
