36 Things Tik Tok Taught Me

I’m addicted to Tik Tok. I admit it. One of the reasons I love the platform so much is because of the interesting stuff I learn.
I’m going to share 36 things Tik Tok taught me.
Let’s get into it!
A quick note
First, don’t believe everything you read/hear on the internet. Just because someone on Tik Tok said it, doesn’t mean it’s the truth.
You’ve got to do your own research and your own due diligence, even if it’s coming from a professional (attorney, doctor, psychologist, etc.).
These 36 things I’ve learned aren’t vetted by me and I haven’t tried and tested them all yet.
If you’re interested in learning more about any of these, make sure to do your research.
36 Things Tik Tok Taught Me
1. You can throw 5 ingredients or less in a pan and it’ll come out delicious
There are so many recipes on Tik Tok I’ve tried that are this.
You combine 5 or less ingredients in a ceramic dish or pan, put it in the oven and bake. It’s done. It’s delicious.
Example 1: Feta tomato pasta
This is the famous viral feta tomato pasta that sold out the feta cheese block in my H-E-B for weeks. It’s as good as it looks and I’ve made it four times.
Example 2: The recipes from these Tik Tok girls, Fooddolls
They’re known for throwing a bunch of ingredients into a ceramic dish (including dry pasta) and baking in the oven. Pull it out, give it a twirl with tongs mixing up the pasta and sauce/ingredients and it’s done.
I tried this one time and it was a bust.
Not enough liquid covered the dry pasta in the oven and it was uncooked and stuck together. I reviewed the comments on the video and a lot of people had success so I’d be willing to try this recipe or similar ones in the future.
2. You can learn a skill from a Tik Toker
I learned how to trade cryptocurrency on Tik Tok.
I used the knowledge learned from one video to figure out how to buy and trade Safemoon, which turned my $100 investment into around $1,400 a few days later.
3. Video is enough to connect you to other humans
I don’t know how many times I’ve cried watching a 15-second Tik Tok video. It just proves how powerful video is.
4. You can start a full, flourishing business on Tik Tok
I’ve personally experienced this.
I created a brand new account and turned it into up to $7K/month in additional income with under 100K followers in less than a year.
And, other creators have had raving success too:
- Vi Luong has one million followers, films vlogs on her Tik Tok account, she has made up to $32,000/month
- This Tik Toker makes $120,000/year from his Tik Tok side hustle
5. If you want to cheat the system, search it in Tik Tok to find the answer
Tik Tok blocks certain content around nudity, drugs, and other topics.
Depending on what you’re looking for, if you search Tik Tok, you just might be able to find it.
For example, there are almost a dozen ways you can shop Costco without a membership. You can learn how on Tik Tok.
6. For movie/TV show recommendations, tune in to Tik Tok
Don’t know what to watch on Netflix?
Hit up Tik Tok!
I follow so many movie/TV show accounts. I work from home and I have been for the past nearly 10 years.
I usually have TV going on in the background when I work and when I’m not working, I enjoy watching TV.
I can binge-watch a TV series in a day or two.
Anything new that hits Netflix or Hulu or other streaming channels, I usually find out about the day it releases and then quickly watch it.
Bottom line, I consume a lot of TV content.
It makes it hard to find something new and interesting to watch. So, I follow some accounts on Tik Tok which find and share new movies and shows to watch.
Im.mia.not.mya is one of my favorites.
7. I can use filters to do my makeup
Have you seen the eyebrow filter?
Or, the blush contour filter?
You turn this filter on like you’re filming a Tik Tok video and do your makeup. The lines on the filter tell you where to draw on your makeup. Easy little life hack.
8. I can copy other traders and make money
There are Tik Tok accounts you can follow and copy their trades on stocks and cryptocurrency. They charge you for this service, of course but it exists.
And, I would’ve never known this had I not been on Tik Tok.
One group I’m in educates you on stock trading.
They also put out stock trading picks every week and you can choose to follow their recommendations or not.
People in the group are making money and learning at the same time. It’s a neat incentive to get hands-on experience and get rewarded by making money.
9. I can cure my stuffy nose with this head trick
Stuffy nose?
Pinch your nose, blow, viciously shake your head up and down a few times, like you’re head banging.
Stuffy nose gone.
10. I can make homemade pickles in my kitchen
They look mouthwateringly good.
Water, vinegar, salt, red pepper flakes, one chopped onion, garlic, some other ingredients you boil. The recipe is surprisingly simple to put together.
The account to check out for this is sarahelizabeth9939.
11. Day in my life videos never get old
Day in the life of an attorney, day in the life of a doctor, day in the life of a Harvard college student, day in the life of a Googler, day in the life of a model, doesn’t matter.
I’ll watch it and enjoy every moment.
12. ASMR is the GOAT
All the genres of ASMR aren’t my thing. I have favorites:
- Food ASMR
- Plucking
- Mic play
- A few other favorites
If I’m trying to fall asleep, I tune into a Tik Tok live that an ASMRtist is doing and instantly fall asleep in 5 minutes.
13. Watching people eat exotic food is entertaining — but, I’ll probably never do it
Papaya, chocolate pudding fruit, ice cream bean fruit, it sounds super delicious.
It looks good to watch other people eat it but in reality, I’ll probably never get the opportunity to try these fruits (and I don’t have a huge want to try them) and I’m ok with that.
14. Weight loss transformation videos are inspiring
But not enough to prompt action for me to do something, haha. Just being honest.
It’s interesting to learn about the different diets people do though — intermittent fasting, water fasting, keto, paleo, etc.
15. I’ll heart almost every cat video I come across
So many cat videos are in my favorites. They’re just so cute. I love all the videos.
I did learn that you can potty train a cat on a toilet. Interesting stuff.
16. Booktok is addicting
If you’re trying to get into reading books, get on booktok.
I like the creators that summarize the first quarter of the book then leave you hanging.
You’ve got to get the book to find out what happens. I could watch those videos on repeat all day long.
17. Smartwater is bad
I’ve been hearing this over the past few months.
It was one of the brands I’d reach for at the gas station when I wanted water. Second thinking it now.
Not sure if this is true or rumor but, makes me hold off buying it until I find out.
18. There are many opportunities to get money through class action settlements
Cereal brands, software users, even Tik Tok users can be entitled to money from class action lawsuits.
There’s a creator (probably several creators) that share info about these on Tik Tok. Very interesting.
19. You can make money posting on social media without a social following
This is true.
Make Tik Tok videos for brands, like you would for sponsored posts but, you don’t post it to your social media account. The content you make is for the brand.
Interesting right?
I learned about a new Tik Tok (under 1,000 followers) who booked a $5K/month deal creating crypto content for a company!
20. You can earn passive income with Helium mining
You buy a helium miner, put it in your window sill and connect with other hotspots providing network coverage, earning Helium cryptocurrency for your efforts.
I did series on this on my Tik Tok for a while.
Where I live (Houston), people could make up to $9,000/month doing this, no work required aside from the initial setup.
Crazy, right?

If you want to check how much you can possibly make, visit Explorer.Helium.com and find your city.
The miners cost $300 to $600 each.
You usually can only have one per location so, only one in your home. And then if you have access to other locations like work, etc., you can put one there. That’s if you want to buy multiple.
I think many people start with just buying one.
Some people will go to Starbucks, set up a laptop and work and connect their miner while they work to use Starbucks as a location, haha.
If you want a free miner, this company can get you one but you have to pay them a portion of your earnings every month. If you’re ok with that, click here to learn more.
21. Cruises are way more glamorous than I thought
I never was drawn to cruises. I get motion sick so that’s probably why.
Tik Tokers show you an inside look at their cruise experience and you get to see how amazing it can be:
- Tons of restaurants
- Casinos
- Water slide
- Comedy club
- Dance club
- Karaoke club
- Pool
On and on. It looks really fun. I might consider going on one just for the experience if I can figure out how to not be motion sick during the cruise.
22. People are thoughtful to delivery drivers
I had no idea and it had never occurred to me that people leave snacks and cold drinks at their front door for delivery drivers.
How sweet.
You’ve got to watch the Ring doorbell videos of drivers being surprised and grabbing a cool drink and snack and being so happy about it.
It’s the little things.
23. The coconut cloud smoothie from Erewhon in LA is something I will try

I live in Texas. I’ve never been to California. But, I must try this $17 smoothie, one day.
24. The $140 box of Last Crumb cookies are something I will taste

I actually talked with their team last year and I was close to getting a free box of their $140 box of gourmet luxury cookies.
Communication got sketchy after the first two emails and I haven’t been able to get back in contact with them.
These are 12 cookies in different flavors that are huge like Crumbl cookies. They look better than Crumbl and super tasty. They are not available year round.
The company does cookie drops like they’re new release shoes.
The latest drop was two days ago and yes, I snagged a box before they sold out in under 4 hours.
Life’s too short.
