The mass Medium ban effect.

The number of people affected by this recent mass ban is surprising.

Anyone who says we’re not all connected doesn’t know the platform or the truth.

We are all connected and affected.

Here’s what happened to my follower count:

The ‘public’ follower count is not in sync with your stats follower count.

I started this story yesterday, with the follower screenshot above. Today it’s back down to 2,422 (on my stats page). Medium is cleaning up.

Interestingly, I saw the drop in followers and email subscribers before I knew there was a mass ban. At first, I thought it was an update problem. Now I realize the stats page had already been updated to reflect the mass ban removals.

Several of the accounts have been reinstated, but the damage is done. The impact has been felt. Those who are back express the mental toll it has taken. Some will stay while others are taking a moment to think.
