355 Articles and Counting — I Can Hardly Believe It
I have never considered myself a blogger. Even today, I am still primarily a book author. And yet today, I look back on 355 blog articles. Time is powerful when you make it work for you.
My work here on Medium has never been consistent over the last 21 months. My first article was published in February 2019.
This means that since then, I have published an average of almost 17 articles per month. Many would say that this is not very ambitious, because the advice you always hear is that you should publish every day. I have not managed to do that.
But in February 2019, I only wrote one article, and in March, I only wrote three. Because I didn’t immediately become rich and famous after that, I didn’t publish an article at all in April.
In May, 21 articles followed, and in June, it was 11 because I did not want to give up yet. Then I took a whole month off again. I hadn’t found my groove yet, and I didn’t know how to reconcile this new task with writing my books.
Months followed with 14, 26, 31, 29, and 14 articles. Then the year 2019 was over, and I finally seemed to have found my rhythm.
In March 2020, I was able to join the illustrious circle of authors who earned more than 100 dollars a month on Medium for the first time. In April and May 2020, I managed to do this again.
But then June came, and I fell well below that mark again. I hadn’t done anything different than before, and yet I couldn’t keep up the level. I had written and published an article every single day, but my numbers dropped.
It was frustrating. Nevertheless, I wrote every day in July again. I did not want to give up that quickly. But even this month did not bring me closer to my numbers from before.
So in August, I reduced my efforts again. Instead, I now devoted myself to another new project.
You can read a summary of how this new project has worked for me so far here:
Therefore I wrote only 5 and 10 articles in September and October. My new side project brought in more money in less time than all my previous efforts on Medium.
In November, so today, I’m a little more engaged on this platform again. This is my thirteenth article this month, and I plan to reach 19 by the end of the month. I now only write five days a week because the extra effort of writing on the weekends is not worth it.
However, I’m noticing clearly that my income is recovering if I publish regularly. Also, my own publication is gaining more and more followers.

So I will continue to put a lot of time and energy into my Medium career. The long-term chances of building something substantial for me here are simply too great to give up.
Conclusion
I may not have made it permanently into the club of those who earn over $100 a month, but my portfolio is growing and growing. And the more articles I write, the bigger my footprint on the platform becomes. Sooner or later, I too will become one of those who earn a large part of their income through Medium — if I am still willing to do the necessary work.
I hope that my interim report was especially helpful for new authors on the platform. You should know that Medium requires a lot of time and effort before even the smallest amount of money ends up in your account. But if you stay on the ball for many months or even years, it can make all the difference.
I still believe in my chance. Three hundred fifty-five articles are still only a beginning.
