Princess Diana’s death 25 years after
I can’t believe it has been 25 years, since the death of the people’s princess. In her death Diana who was stripped of her, ‘HRH,’ Her Royal Highness title, after her divorce to Prince Charles, the heir to the throne needed nothing from the royals.
She would never be the Queen of England, but in her death not only she was the people’s princess she was the Queen of hearts of everyone who grieved the passing of a woman that to this day has captured many people’s hearts, including mine.
Her dying words were,
“My God, what has happened?” — Princess Diana, 1997
Princess Diana died on August 31, 1997.
A few days later, the world lost another remarkable woman, Mother Teresa, the living saint as she was called, who in 2016 was canonized by Pope Francis each year we celebrate her feast day on September 5, the day when the world lost her body but heaven won her soul.
Princess Diana and Mother Teresa: An Unlikely Friendship
A woman long seen as the face of charity, and a woman longing to find her meaning ended up as friends in their final years.
Mother Teresa and Princess Diana will not cross paths until 1992. When Princess Diana visited Calcutta that year, Mother Teresa was too sick to see her. It will take a few more months before they meet in Rome.
One will never imagine these two women would soon become friends. They were very different from each other; Princess Diana was the face of glamour while Mother Teresa chose a path of living a simple life and yet they were bound by their love for the poor.
In a statement Paul Burrell, former butler of Princess Diana said that after the two met, Diana was inspired by Mother Teresa and had a “spiritual awakening.”
When Princess Diana died, a photo of her kids, Prince William and Prince Harry were placed in her hands together with the rosary that Mother Teresa gave her.
Rosary and the Virgin Mary
What is the real meaning of rosary? The word “Rosary” means a chain of roses and the roses are prayers. The Rosary Prayer tells us about the life of Jesus and his Mother, Mary. In the Church, the month of October is, by custom, the month of the Rosary but people do use this prayer all the year round.
When I read about this story, what Princess Diana had in her hands was the rosary that she received from Mother Teresa, it reminded me to stand by my faith.
The Catholic Church isn’t perfect, so am I and so was Princess Diana.
But as she was about to be laid to rest, and not a day had gone by when Mother Teresa herself would ascend to heaven, the rosary beads were all that connected them in the afterlife.
I’m a Catholic and a firm believer in Mama Mary. I have a few stories about Mama Mary, the times when I was able to visit Fatima in Portugal, her house in Turkey, and the Virgin of Subang Jaya in Malaysia.
A story to which I owe my journey as an online writer.
Tomorrow as the Catholic faithful around the world celebrates the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, we need to take to heart the rosary. Like the way it connected Princess Diana and Mother Teresa, praying the rosary connects us to the mother of Jesus Christ.
I love you, Mama Mary.
Happy Birthday Mama Mary
