30 Positive Words to Guide You Through September

“Out of clutter, find simplicity. From discord, find harmony. In the middle of difficulty lies opportunity.” Albert Einstein

September is a new beginning. Summer is slowly changing into fall. A chill appears in the morning air. The children are back at school.

For me, early September is a time to get out my journal and look at my goals for this year. I take some time to appreciate how far I’ve come and to evaluate how much further I have to go.

There are always some goals that I haven’t achieved and, when I look at them, I just don’t feel good about them anymore. In the past, I would feel guilty about this and tell myself I should try harder. Now, I realize that these goals are just not the right ones for me. I made them with the right intentions but later realized that my heart was not in them. It’s fine to discard these goals and replace them with new ones — goals that inspire me to move forward.

There are four months left until the end of the year. How can you make the best possible use of this time? What would you like to achieve before Christmas?

Looking at this month’s positive words, here are a few that will guide my way through this transitional month and beyond.

Simplicity

We don’t need much to live a good life. Simplicity can mean fewer possessions, so you don’t need to spend much time looking after them. This gives you more time and energy to exercise, be creative, do hobbies, spend time with family and friends or just relax!

Simplicity can also take place in your brain, which can become cluttered and distracted by many thoughts. If you take just five or ten minutes a day to be mindful and just let your thoughts come and go without getting drawn into them, you’ll reap the rewards of clearer thinking and a better focus over time.

Non-judgmental

It’s so easy to judge ourselves and others every minute of the day. We live in a society that encourages judgment, from admiring trendsetters to criticizing people who are finding life difficult.

Once we stop judging ourselves so harshly, we start judging other people less. That allows us to see them as the human beings they are. Like us, everyone has their strengths and weaknesses. Most people are just doing the best they can in the circumstances they are in.

Light-hearted

Most of us take life very seriously. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but it’s important to balance our seriousness with some fun. Take some time to laugh with friends, play with children, watch a comedy, or just dance around the living room! You’ll feel much better afterwards!

Alive

Just being alive is a gift. It is enough. Let’s just be thankful that we’re alive today and make the most of whatever the day brings.

Can-do

A turning point in my life was when I began to focus on all the things I can do, rather than all the things I can’t do, due to circumstances, life stage, commitments and so on. Once I began to focus on what I could do, I found that the list of these things was much longer than I thought. I also uncovered new opportunities that had been hidden from my view before.

I hope these positive words inspire you to live each day of September to the full. September can be a month of transition in your life, as well as in nature, if you let it lead you to new thoughts, new attitudes, new decisions, new actions, and a new path in life.
