3 Writers I Would Love to Meet
Their work is some of my favorites; their character is all the better.
Have you ever just loved a book so much that you wanted to meet the mind behind it? I have plenty of times.
That’s why I love meeting authors at book signings and other such occasions. It allows me to learn about them more while also having a great conversation.
And after so many authors I have met over the years, here are three more I could never meet, but I wish I could:
1. Stephen King
Who wouldn’t want to meet the king of horror novels himself? After reading a wide variety of his work over the years like many of you, I have so many questions for him. One major question would be:
“How the hell do you write like you do?”
He keeps churning out work like the daily newspapers. He also keeps readers on their toes until the very last word. But it led me to think about how he writes.
His writing follows a certain storyline all the while something else is happening at the same time. Then Kaboom! It all makes sense in the end.
If he and I ever had coffee, I don’t think I would be able to get up. I would be intrigued to pick his brain just like he is keeping us up all night with his work.
2. Theodore Roosevelt
Who wouldn’t want to dine with a president? Or at least hang out with them for a little while.
If I could choose any one of the 46 men who have ever served as Commander-in-Chief to be with for a bit, it would be Theodore Roosevelt. And why not? He wore so many hats besides president — hunter, statesman, explorer, and writer!
He wrote dozens of books during his life, before, during, and after his presidency. Reading his work takes me on a great adventure, similar to the life he led and the legacy he left.
3. Mark Twain
This is another great writer.
Known for classics like “Tom Sawyer,” “Huck Finn” and “The Prince and the Pauper,” Twain was one of the greatest American writers, if not the whole world. Who wouldn’t want to spend time with him?
Who knows what we would talk about? Probably writing, but maybe also the places he’s visited, the people he’s met, or the experiences he’s had. Much of it bled into his writing.
I don’t think an hour with Twain would be long enough. I could hang out with him forever.
