3 Ways to Enjoy Being Single
Entertain yourself like crazy.
I’ve been single all of my life.
Will I ever find that special person? Who knows.
I wouldn’t mind sitting by myself in the tunnel of love because I’ve found ways to be comfortable in my…singleness. So if you just got out of a bad relationship and you feel like you can’t go another day without your ex, here are three ways to enjoy being single.
1. Understand Your Self-worth
You are enough on your own.
I’ve seen too many of my friends get down in the dumps to the point where they feel like their entire world is ending. They’ve cried on my shoulder in agony. One of them didn’t show up to school for a while.
But I’ve also had friends that didn’t give a fuck even though they seemed very close with their partner.
There are only two ways you can approach these situations. The “woe is me my life is over” way or the “it’s time for me to work on myself with no distractions” way. You know the best one.
Take your break up as an unexpected investment in your mental and physical health. You’re going to gain strength on your own so get excited to embark on that journey.
2. Make a List of Reasons Why Your Ex Sucked
If you want to go the Taylor Swift route, I won’t judge.
Trashing your ex is fun (I can’t help but say it). I’m not saying you can’t be friends with them later or you have to blast it all over social media. No one has to know about the list except for you.
Get out a piece of paper and write down some crappy qualities your ex had. Once you get a list going, you’ll start to see that you dodged a bullet there. This will give you more confidence to partake in your own self-development.
3. Binge-Watch TV Shows
I’m going to start on Lovecraft Country soon so no spoilers, please :)
Binge-watching doesn’t rot your brain as much as it seems. I remember watching anime for almost a week straight. I got through one hundred episodes and a movie.
Who needs to go out on dates all the time when they have a few unwatched seasons of Game of Thrones on their phone?
The reason why I mention binge-watching specifically over any other activity is that I’ve had friends tell me that everything reminds them of their ex. EVERYTHING.
Outside influences can connect you back to your ex and put you in that negativity again. Going on social media can be worse because you don’t know what you’ll see that can remind you of them.
Turn off all of the notifications on your phone and focus on watching your show. You’ll have the entertainment to focus on without looking at everything else.
Final Thoughts
Being single can be the most empowering thing that ever happens to you.
It might suck at first, but if you can understand your self-worth, make a list of reasons why your ex sucked, and binge-watch a ton of TV shows, I know you’ll get back on your feet in no time.
You have the power to stand on your own two feet. So go on and do it.
