3 Unexpected Ways to Stay Excited on a Rainy Day

No more weather moods.

I don’t care what anyone says, weather matters.

You can tell what mood you’ll be in for the day based on the weather. I remember being depressed for almost two weeks during the winter. Classic Seasonal Affective Disorder.

I tried all the mental health tricks in the book to improve my mood but nothing worked. As soon as the sun peaked out…

“Let’s go skydiving!”

Okay, a little abrupt but you know where I’m going. Sometimes the sun is the only thing that can get you out of that negativity. What if I told you I found three replacements for the sun?

Here are three ways to stay excited on a rainy day.

1. Use a million and one nightlights.

I used to be in constant fear of the dark when I was ten years old. It took me longer than most kids to break that fear so I needed a night light next to my bed at all times.

I can’t tell you how much comfort I’ve felt having my Darth Vader night light that changes colors near me.

Night lights aren’t natural like the sun, but they put you in a mellower mood than the one you experience on rainy days. You aren’t glum. You feel more at peace with your life’s outcomes.

So buy a cheap nightlight from the dollar store and plug it in. It’s your little night buddy that keeps you safe.

2. Write down your accomplishments for the week.

The best way to feel excited about what’s to come is to write down what you’ve already done (hey, that rhymes).

With the rainy clouds draining your energy, the last thing you want is to write down a list. But writing down your biggest accomplishments makes you feel like you’re the shit. Sometimes you have to get cocky to keep from getting depressed inside.

I hate overconfidence as much as the next person. As long as you’re not bragging, it’s an easy way to remain optimistic about your future.

Last month I got amazing grades for my classes. It doesn’t guarantee that I’ll get perfect grades in the future, but it inspires me to keep working hard so that will manifest into my future.

So write down your accomplishments. Each one you write will get you excited for the next one.

3. Have a small gathering.

I say this because big parties can be huge downers. If anything, they cause you to spiral into a depressive state more. You’re either super hype or being that socially awkward person sitting on the couch.

I just organized a small get-together with a couple of friends today. Now it’s the only thing I’ve been thinking about for the whole week. I’m so excited to catch up with them.

It’s easy to feel alone on rainy days. Scheduling a gathering with some close friends helps you understand that you have a support system nearby if anything happens.

Another great way to stay excited on rainy days is to make things to look forward to. It doesn’t have to be an extravagant event. Keeping things small and intimate will give you more excitement.

Final Thoughts

Rainy days are sleep-in days devoid of motivation.

If you get a nightlight, write down your accomplishments, and schedule a small gathering your rainy days will turn into sunny days in no time.

Even though the storm is still brewing, the light always finds a way to peak out. So what are you waiting for?
