3 Things You Should Do to Become a Successful Content Creator

There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you.― Maya Angelou

Okay- so before we start, it’s not going to be a cliched advice, it’s from my own experience after experimenting many different things.

If you are following me for a while, I am an aspiring writer, a content creator, and have been publishing my articles on Medium since January 2021.

I usually post once a week. Along with my blog, I have a weekly substack newsletter and a LinkedIn newsletter. alright, enough about me :)

I am not (yet!) a professional writer, however if you are a new or aspiring writer and haven’t figured out anything or looking for another perspective on how you can become a productive content creator without burning yourself — read this article and I am sure you will find one or two useful things.

1. It doesn’t matter really how many articles you publish every month

I have seen many creators giving advice on writing 20 or more articles per month, it’s a lot of articles and almost every day you need to publish to keep up the numbers. If you are a part-time writer, this number can be an overreach.

I think publishing 1–2 articles per week is good to get your rhythm and find what you like in writing. Once you get it, you will be able to produce more.

So don’t get caught up in between numbers game. See, what works with you and publish regularly.

2. Read other writer’s articles, books

Writing more and producing high quality content is not just about writing.

It’s also about reading more. I think, somewhere many of you miss the importance of reading.

“If you don’t have time to read, you don’t have the time (or the tools) to write. Simple as that.”― Stephen King

But I feel, if I read more I generate more ideas and my articles become more informational and knowledgeable. I gain value from my books and articles I read every day.

I usually spend nearly an hour reading and spending time to note down my learning or anything that I find useful and can help me with my writing.

3. Quality over Quantity — Authenticity is the key

I get it, it’s a creator economy or what it means to online creators. From my articles, I observed, the articles where I was hell vulnerable and shared my personal experience did better than the ones that had less personal viewpoints.

“One day I will find the right words, and they will be simple.”― Jack Kerouac

It’s not always easy to share your deepest darkest thoughts, share your vulnerability, and life updates.

I have been very open about me in some of my articles and I received more comments, likes, and DMs. These articles took me more than 10 days to write and in fact nearly the same time to publish because I didn’t know how people were going to react and the fear of getting trolled or abused.

But ultimately, I learned being authentic is all you need.

Create multiple small content pieces on different but related topics. You will find out which topics get the most traction. You will also find out when you have fun and what is easy for you.

Lastly,

My only suggestion is to be authentic, post regularly, and be real not some robotic voice behind the screen.

Hit reply and share your story, lesson learned, and the things you find motivational for yourself.
