Blogging is a hard job, people think blogging is simple and you just have to write and publish a story but a lot more goes into that.

The most successful writers making a lot of money on Medium like Zulie Rane and Tim Denning are not only good at writing, they also know how to promote themselves and figure out the blogging algorithm while finding other ways to generate passive income like writing courses and YouTube.

When you’re a new writer, it’s intimidating because you’re always comparing yourself to other writer’s stories. One of the hardest things about blogging is starting up your account and getting your first 100 followers.

To all the new writers on Medium just focus on you and the quality of the content you put out on the regular. What’s important is to understand the do’s and don’t of blogging and writing on Medium.

Staying off social media

It’s 2021 now, I’m sorry but if you don’t have any social media accounts related to your blog and the content you post then it’s going to be hard to really grow.

I limit myself on social media because I know how addicting it could be but social media marketing is taking over and you should join the bandwagon while you still can. I recommend creating an account relevant to your niche and brand on Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube to start. See how it goes from there and begin to expand your profile on the internet.

If you want to get views and attention to your work share your stories on social media and eventually develop a following on there as well as your blogging website/page.

Not promoting their stories

If you create stories on Medium, the platform will help you out with views but if you upload your blogs to websites like Vocal Media, WordPress, or your own blogging website it’s going to be difficult to get the attention your writing deserves (especially when first starting out.)

If you tweet about a story on Twitter, promote it on Instagram stories, and share it on all your social media accounts you’ll start to see more eyes on your content.

Quitting early

Quitting anything early is something you shouldn’t do unless you absolutely despise it.

Medium and all blogging websites will reward you and pay more attention to the more content you post and how active you are on their platform. If you quit early it’s going to be hard to get the views and engagement you used to get. Even when you’re 100 stories in and you’re writing still hasn’t gotten any attention just keep going. One viral article is all it takes for your account to blow up.

Takeaway

I’ve made a lot of mistakes on my blog when I first started and it’s bound to happen to you as well. It’s perfectly fine as long as you learn from it and step forward.
