3 Things I Learned from Hanging Out with Millionaire Entrepreneurs
Your cheat sheet to copying their behavior…
So, picture this. The other day, I was on a zoom call with an entrepreneur making $200k/month.
This is someone who’s joined the millionaire club several times over. And I abruptly realized something…
I’m learning to act like a millionaire by default. Just by hanging out with these people.
The more they talk to me about their thought process, the more I catch myself starting to adopt the same behavior.
And you’re probably thinking, “Yes please — share all their juicy strategies with me!” 🔥🔥🔥
Well, TIPS or STRATEGIES aren’t exactly what I’m sharing today.
Wait…wut??
You see, hanging out with these millionaire entrepreneurs wasn’t like unlocking a secret treasure chest of business wisdom.
Instead, it was more like getting an UNEXPECTED reality check…
What I THOUGHT life looks like as a multi-millionaire is, well…*NOT* accurate.
And that’s what I want to share with you today.
The three things I learned from hanging out with millionaire entrepreneurs.
Not secret strategies or magic formulas, but real, down-to-earth insights that seem to make millionaires more resilient and capable.
Let’s see what they got in their treasure chest ⬇️
#1: They know failure = growth. And growth is expensive. 💸
I recently had a call with an entrepreneur who walked me through his finances.
And in his spreadsheets, there were MONTHS and MONTHS of negative numbers.
He rattled them off without flinching, “and in November, we were negative by $62,000…”
Most of us start a business based on this one thought:
Once I start making money, everything is gonna be CAKE! I’ll just repeat the money-making task and 🌈
But the REALITY of running your own business is that you are on the rollercoaster.
Day jobs = less pay that’s more stable. Entrepreneurs = more pay that’s less stable.
And that means that some months, you’ll be positive. And some months you’ll be (really, really) negative.
But even more importantly, it means if you want to grow, you have to PAY for that growth.
And that’s why our aforementioned millionaire was so calm about a -$62,000 month.
When asked how he felt that month (and the FIVE before that were also negative)…He simply said, “I knew we were growing, and this is what we had to do.”
There was no freak out…No panic.
Just the simple knowledge that progression COSTS.
He didn’t feel those negative months were a “failure”, because he NEEDED them to grow into a bigger business.
He ended his spreadsheet show-and-tell with a positive number.
“And you can see here…” he said, “In December, we figured it out, and we had our first ever $200,000 month.”
It was followed by months that did even better.
TL;DR
Failure isn’t real. All that’s real is “growth” and “staying put”.
Stop assigning negative emotions to GROWTH — it costs money to grow.
There are no work arounds, no cheats…No shortcuts.
The ebb and flow will always exist. If you’re going to ride the rollercoaster, you might as well ENJOY the ride.
#2: It looks like they’re multi-tasking, but really they’re focused on ONE thing.
Multi-tasking looks a *little different* when you’re used to the load of a million-dollar business.
Let’s break this down with a story of a NON-millionare…
I recently coached a seller with a brand new shop.
She came to me and said, “here’s my direct competitor. They’re making $500k/month. I want to be where they are in 90 days.”
LOL.
Even if this seller did somehow MIRACULOUSLY get to $500k/mo in 90 days (spoiler alert: she did NOT) 😂
…Would she KNOW how to *properly* run a $500k/mo business?
Everyone just sees dollar signs, and no one actually thinks about the WORKLOAD of a big business.
Let’s see what that workload *REALLY* looks like ⬇️
Here’s what her $500k/mo competitor was doing:
✅ They had a custom made website with an incredibly simple, uncomplicated marketing message…That they had clearly honed with tons of Facebook ad testing.
✅ They were running $40,000+ of ads PER MONTH.
✅ They had an active email list they grew to 100k, and they sent an email PER DAY.
✅ They had a big Tik Tok presence and posted there 5x per DAY.
✅ They had extremely responsive (5 minutes or less) live chat and customer support running on their site.
Our seller had a website with an unclear message, no email list, no social presence, and she didn’t understand how to run ads.
Everyone always says, “well, I’ll just hire out those tasks!”
omg. MORE LOL.
If you think it’s EASY to find high-quality contractors that will care enough about your business to do a better job than you…
I have news for you: ⬇️
You wouldn’t buy a house just to give someone else your front door keys.
You gotta LEARN to do the things that run your business.
All millionaires have this in common. They know how to do the thing, and do it well.
The DIY part **is not a skippable step** if you want big success.
So back to our seller, and her *LACK* of ability to run a $500k/mo business:
She would need to get *GREAT* (like world-renowned) at 5+ major business skills to hit her goal.
…Which would all have to happen, according to her, in 90 days. 😂
It’s not gonna happen.
Especially not with the mindset that she “deserves” to make $500k/mo.
The only people who “deserve” to make $500k/mo are the people who kept working until they made 500k/mo. And she wanted to skip all those steps.
Millionaires don’t skip steps.
If you’re doing this for results in 90 days like our non-millionaire, then I have news for you:
You’re going to be severely disappointed.
This is a marathon, not a sprint. ⬇️
⛔ If you were in college, would you expect to graduate in a week and get a job?
⛔ If you were trying to get a 6 pack, would you expect to go to the gym once and get results?
We all know ⬆️ those things are UNREALISTIC.
Then why do we think that BUILDING A BUSINESS — aka a thing that will FUND your retirement and keep you employed for 20+ years — why do we think we have to rush thru the “build your business” process??!?
If I wanted to work for a crappy, slapped-together workplace…I’d walk into literally any building.
I can get a messy-ass DISASTER workplace anywhere.
WHY would you go out of your way to build one of these FOR YOURSELF?!? 🤨
You should be willing to work on your business for at least 10 years.
But that doesn’t mean spend 10 years doing whatever comes to mind.
That means get a clear strategy. Then FOCUS on one thing at a time until it works.
Note I did not say: “focus until you get sick of it.”
That’s what most people actually do, and it’s what separates the millionaires from everyone else. ⬇️
TL;DR
Millionaires have complicated businesses. It looks like they’re just doing everything at once, and they just happen to be good at it.
But what really happened (if you were to press the rewind button), is them FOCUSING on one thing at a time.
They got great at that one thing.
Then they move on, and focus on the next ONE big thing.
They stack their skills over time.
And that’s exactly what you should be doing.
This method, by default, requires a major time investment. But it allows you to skip over years of “doing what everyone else is doing”
…And it creates results instead.
All you gotta do is get your brain to stay put in one place.
Sounds hard, but trust me when I say that millionaires are NO LESS ADHD that the rest of us 😂
In fact, most of the millionaire sellers I’ve met struggle with focus MORE. (Like A LOT more. Like, coaching them is hard 😅).
But they know that focus = money.
So they FORCE their brain to focus.
There’s no magic trick here. It’s all focus and time. You got this.
#3: Learning is not optional.
Have you ever followed like…every million and billion dollar entrepreneur on Insta???
No? Just me…?
One thing you’ll notice if you fall down the filthy-rich entrepreneur rabbit hole is this:
😮 They’re ALWAYS ranting about the latest book… 😮 They’re ALWAYS quoting things they learned… 😮 And they ALWAYS seem to be devouring MORE information…
And this is what sets them apart…
They KNOW they don’t know everything. They adopt a mantra of life-long learning.
No one knows it all. If you have an area in your life where you feel holier-than-thou, like you’re vastly overqualified — I have news for you:
You’re ACTUALLY here ⬇️
I mean, let’s just call a spade a spade:
Thinking you’re ALWAYS right is a SHITTY MINDSET.
Please, indulge me: how do YOU feel about people who think they’re always right? ⤵️
Know-it-alls are annoying for a reason:
You know something that they don’t.
And by that logic, lots of people must ALSO know something you don’t know.
So now that we’re on the same page about everyone knowing nothing…
Back to my gazillion-aires and their beloved books:
While the rest of us are sitting around like, “I’m too busy and overwhelmed to learn more…”
Learning for top performers is NOT OPTIONAL — and they don’t treat it like a burden.
They have FUN, read books they enjoy, and get really into implementing one new thing from each book.
Note I said “IMPLEMENTING”.
Reading books then taking ZERO action is pretty much the entire difference between successful people and everyone else…
Bottom line? Successful people LEARN and then TAKE ACTION.
You might be like, “but I hate reading tho…”
And to you, I say: You’re missing the point.
Learning doesn’t just mean books.
Although, I will say, it’s interesting how much millionaires rely on INEXPENSIVE learning (aka books).
But my whole point is this:
Pick a MEDIA FORMAT that works for you, and start devouring the sh*t out of it…
Podcasts, workshops, webinars, mentoring, books, youtube, medium…
If you LIKE it, you’ll actually do it.
TL;DR
Top sellers know that the online world is constantly evolving. And it’s never gonna stop.
Instead of trying to “keep up” with the joneses (which feels overwhelming af)…
Top sellers just keep themselves in a state of PERPETUAL learning.
They read (or watch) their way to learning one new (HIGH QUALITY) thing every week.
Then they do one small thing about what they learned.
And that’s all it *ACTUALLY* takes to stay ahead.
