3 Things I Learned After Getting 2 Million Content Views
Some writers only share a portion of what they do.
Everybody wants to be a successful writer.
What does success look like to you? Writers crave for a reader to clap on their work. Some yearn for others to highlight their articles, comment, and share their views about the subject. Lastly, writers want people to share their articles outside this platform to get more reader views.
I also notice successful writers launching courses — and enticing us to enroll in their program with the thinking that they have figured things out already. I have spent money on a writing course, which I can say was noteworthy, while some lessons are simple — and some were just good in marketing their program.
Some so-called experts say these features that you need to do to get more views to earn more dollars for you.
Learn how the platform works
We are not in control of the algorithm; it may change now and then.
The platform determines what content people see and show up on their feeds. The instruction prompts each reader or user based on their interest over a period.
Users are not visible to what type of content to show on their screen — but one thing is sure. Provided your content gets a lot of dwell time and engagement, such a platform will reward your content — to reach more viewers — that is the intent.
Rather than learning the formula behind the platform, it is better to learn how to create a good copy. The ingredients of an engaging copy are that it should be educational and relational to your audience.
No matter what changes are happening in their algorithm, a great article will resonate with a specific audience when the writer is mindful of the reader.
Include this to steal attention
We see a lot of content over the net, whatever platform it may be — we dwell more time on those that make a good impression based on the headline and images of the article.
As human beings, we have a limited attention span. As others say, attention is the new currency in this new era of web and technology.
Articles are like food on a buffet table. We taste a bit of this — and we consume a portion of that. It is hard to sustain attention if we do not understand the fundamental elements of content creation.
Writers suggest that you include striking images along with your article. Instead of slapping their faces with headline bait only to know that you have deceived them later — including attention-grabbing images can win readers’ attention. You cannot limit the pictures to words. And pictures say something a lot with our articles without really uttering a single word.
Instead of selecting captivating pictures, it is also good to discover your sweet spot. Articles you write that you are in the flow. You will get a pretty good engagement if you stick to it.
Continue to create more of it to solve the problems of your audience. As you take this direction, you get noticed over time if you stay in that position.
Be on the lookout to write about current events and what is latest.
I was honestly thinking about writing about that slapping incident at the Oscars — but I later dropped the idea. I could have earned a couple of reads if I only had the time yesterday. If I start now, it might be too late. People do not read old news. I let go of the idea and moved on.
Since it would take time for me to complete an article about current events because it would entail a lot of research and validation from other sources, I defaulted to my habit of creating evergreen content instead.
My commitment to writing every day started this month again. My rhythm broke due to the growth of my consulting business. I stick to what is easy for me to create rather than consume time for an article that would take me hours to build.
I am not saying to you not to chase trends — since it would take much of my time and energy to build a trending article. Since I have limited time to write due to many responsibilities — I would always default to my system of creating content that I think I am good at already.
Evergreen content has always been part of my long-time strategy. Thanks to them because even if I slowed down a bit, my articles in the past still garner reads — and generate money.
